  • Not really. The slightest noise and they run back in to the brambles.

  • Do you feed them?

  • No. But there have been foxes in the garden for 20 years so they are doing all right.

  • I know a few people who feed foxes and badgers in their gardens, but to have a self sustaining population in an (I assume) suburban garden which is still properly wild is very cool.

Gibbs wasn't to happy when he realised I was working away for a month!

  • Wow! Death stare...

  • I see you have prepared some taped hessian.
Harsh, but if no-one wants them...

It's all right though, Dammit doesn't own anything heavy enough to weight the sack down...

  • Here's a photo of little Stella, 6 months old now, smashing some cucumber and having a brilliant time. Sadly her pal Simon died a couple of weeks ago with no warning whatsoever, we just woke up one morning and she was on her back. We need to get Stella a new companion soon, guinea pigs are social so can't really live on their own.

  • Picked Herbie up yesterday, he's the most chilled puppy, currently snoring while I'm trying to work. He's 12 weeks old and pushing 20kg

  • A gentle beast

I'm not surprised he's laid back in this weather! Even our super-hyperactive black Lab is currently spending most of her days flat out on the cool kitchen floor.

He's very cute. How big will he get?

Sorry to hear about Simon :(

  • On the plus side, Stella's enjoying getting twice as much attention/fresh veg.

Yes, the weather is certainly taking it out of him, but he also has a very laid back nature. Doesn't jump up at all, settles very quickly once you've made a fuss of him, wasn't overawed when I had a house full of people on Monday night - but loves company. I'm really pleased with his temperament.

He should grow to about 50kg, possibly a little more.

  • Nice to see he's got all of his ears, from having a quick search for the breed it would appear they are normally cropped quite severely.

  • Cropping ears!!!!! WTF?! I can just about understand cropping lambs' tails but anything else is abhorrent. Fucking cropping a dog's fucking ears, Jesus wept.

    Lovely looking dog there Mark.

I read this, then scrolled up to see a photo of a hamster.

I wondered what sort of monster would havev a hamsters ears cropped.

What's the best way of getting coffee out of my keyboard?

  • Fire.

Ear cropping and tail docking is illegal in the UK, other than for working dogs where they could be damaged. Traditionally corsos had both done because they were worked for guarding and hunting, now it just happens for vanity reasons. There are so few of them in the UK that most are imported from Italy and the US, where cropping and docking are legal, so that's what you often see. Most internet pictures will be of non UK dogs anyway.

I know which I prefer, but one of Herbie's litter mates had his tail legally docked, as it was damaged at birth. Herbie still has the ability to clear a coffee table of everything on it, and get food all over his ears. If it carries on, we off on holiday to Italy...
