  • +1. It was quick too. nearly averaged 38kph and i was off for the last 10 laps before the intermission.

Was that average of 38kph from start to finish minus the intermission, about 1.5 hours ride time? Kind of explains why I am sitting on the sofa knackered.

  • They must have meant phil :D

  • I spoke to a bloke called John about Rollapaluza CC at inters. If you are on here and want more details, pm me.

yeah - for me it was about 83 minutes or something. I had a big big pull when it got messy and they were sending off 2 pairs at the same time (but not a 4...didn't understand that one) and then your man on the lap board signalled 5 so i thought i'd pull out....but you ended up doing another 10 or 12 laps.

so with that last quickish bit before the break it would have been about 38 exactly. I had 37.6 on the dial including my walking on and off the track. The last rotation was 43-45 on the inside by the time we went into a line (where it initially dropped to about 41). It was quick but then I think that even the "sitting" speed when we are doing pursuits is higher as well so we going faster on them but still spending a while before we get back on.......As far as i can remember from September last year at least

  • People are obsessing over the average speed of a track training session in its entirety?

I just don't know what to think anymore.

  • I'm gonna do my best to make it down for next week, really want to hit the track this year.

  • First basic today, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Was properly knackered afterwards, but I was glad to see that I wasn't the least fit person on the track.
I do have a couple of gripes: perhaps because this was my first time, I was listening to the coaches as best as I could and following their advice. There were a few people in the session though who definitely weren't, including a teenager from VCL (who was part of the session I think) who a couple of times dropped in front of me during chain gangs and was generally being a bit of a dickhead.
There were also a few people really struggling by the end - I don't know what the protocol is, but it was really frustrating to have someone struggling to keep up the group and letting large gaps form. Should they pull off at this point?

Regardless of the people making it more difficult than it already was, I really enjoyed it and could see the progression during the session in terms of gap size and concertinering. Good to meet a couple of you as well, including those who seemed to be riding home brakeless on track gearing. I pity your knees.

I was expecting to see you down there today man. Next week!

  • Had the brighton slide today, so would have been otherwise!

Oh yeah, forgot about this until after the session. Hopefully the weather held off long enough for you all to enjoy.

    some people did both ;)

  • The fist 40 or so miles were great, last 10 were hell.

  • some people did both ;)

Nearly asked to join before I realised that I was neither fast enough for intermediates or to catch up although I probably could have managed the latter.

Props. First proper riding in a couple of months and I was fucked after today. Pub has helped though.

Doing basic then hipster slide might have been pushing it for time though

There's more to inters than just being fast. If you just did one induction last year then I for one am quite glad you decided not to!

I felt bad enough doing basic today after my induction in September. Quickly realised that everyone was as sketchy as me though, which was nice.

    I know :P

I haven't done an intro ever so that's first on my list.
Then I'll either go for youth sessions or basic.
I feel a bit out of place in youth sessions, not because of ability but because I feel bigger than everyone despite being a worse rider.

Just do basics. There was an 11 year old in it today doing fine. It seems to be a broad mix of abilities.

  • That's what I'm thinking.

I wouldn't say "obsessing". In the absence of anything else to judge on (aside from a fairly variable "feel" but of course that's combined in this rigorous scientific method anyway) I don't see a problem with talking about an average speed at the end of a session - we know that, say, "seated accelerations" would slow it down but with drills comparable to two weeks ago it was a couple of kph faster.

Can you tell me why you think it's odd? (and I'm not being facetious)

  • it is more that the average speed during any given excercise is relevant rather than the whole session.

you would expect rotations to be slower than hare and hound, for example...

  • I think Monday nights will be running as normal next week - 22nd

  • Can you tell me why you think it's odd? (and I'm not being facetious)

Probably because it's a skills session, and average speed measurements are usually used for time trials, combined with some measure of physical performance (HR, power or even percieved exertion).

  • I had a great time at the beginner training session on Saturday, one more stamp than can get up to intermediates. My only concern would be going up from a 1 hour session to a 2 hour session would be the fitness. and getting up 2 hours earlier on a Saturday
