And the advertising paid for the documentary.

WIthout it and radio and internet connections we'd be far less informed about the issues facing other countries though. Do you think the earthquake would receive as much attention and donations if it wasn't for the shocking images shown to us on tv and reports via the internet?

...The majority of people I know with v nice cars have worked v hard, creating employment and ffs if a car is their trinket of choice, why the big problem? and yes, they would probably admit to having a small willy... mid-life crisis, etc

If their carrot is a car, why not. As you said, it creates jobs like a fountain.

urgh, this thread fucking sucks.

Personally I find those who make ostentatious purchases rather vulgar and lacking in personal style, the proposal that one might be jealous of these moneyed oiks is frankly ludicrous.

True, but on the other hand it is these same channels of communication which are making people in developing countries want what we have.

I am jealous of people who can afford a Ferrari.

@ Winston
Frankly ludicrous? Yeah right. To you maybe.
Who gives a shit anyway? Why does it warrant such a lengthy discussion?

I am jealous of people who can afford a Ferrari.
I am jealous of the money, however I would dispose of my wealth in a far more elegant manner.....if I were to be so fortunate.

What would the parallel be between bicycles and cars?
Hatchback runaround aka all the car you'll ever need = Hybrid type thing with a rack/basket
Lower end sports (MX-5 or similar)= Specialised Allez
High end sports (M3/M5)= 2/3K of (say) BMC
Supercar= any road bike that costs in excess of 3K
Going on all the arguments in this thread anyone who owns anything other than a hybrid to do the shopping is a maniac with the blood of a thousand innocent slum dwellers on his or her hands, not to mention personally signing the death warrant for the planet we all live on.
Because it is manifestly evil to want something that is slightly nicer than everyone else, or that you personally will never be able to use to it's full ability.
By the same token- anyone with any NJS gear should kill themselves at once as soon as they realise how selfish they really are.

Is anyone else really wishing this conversation goes on and it turns out Ratan Tata has the middle name "Nata"...

he's just been turned down for a car loan
He couldn't prance enough to model for the Ferrari logo.
He wished he was a fast powerful horse.
He only has 1 horsepower.

I just don't know Hippy. Is anyone actually contributing though? Or is everyone just sitting at their computers, airing their bigotry?
Not all drivers are a threat to cyclists and not all purchasers of expensive goods are cocks, fact.

I hate to state the obvious but taste is subjective.

Also perfectly summed up.
With that in mind, I guess the developing world should not have access to transport and luxury items such as the TV you watched a documentary on which was plugged into the power supply which was connected to the national grid, which was powered by fossil fuels, which were possibly sourced from a pipe line laid across a village in the Niger Delta.......
