compared to a piece of chalk... maybe
But I meant of the Montblanc, etc variety, i.e. it's still just a biro
Well if you already had 10 biros and you decide that you really MUST have the latest biro, then yes you are wasting resources. You can afford to buy them but by wanting more you are destroying natural resources which could be used on much more important things.

Though I agree with you on 4x4s that are never intended to be used off-road and are bought because they'll be better off in a crash.
You are so biased! Tomorrow your best friend is going to take you on a great country ride in his new 4x4s and you will love it and rave about it and how it is so important and cool to have to ride in the Scottish highlands, how could you go hunting otherwise. blablabla.

Andy, you should be beheaded for even thinking such a thing!!! Think of the fluffy kittens!!!
Drama queen.

If you live in the country, you do NEED a car. Houses also keep poluting. UPVC windows give out CO2 emitions for the whole of the there life.
No, you DON'T. You have legs, you have bikes, buses, trains. You don't need a car.
Use glass windows.

Uh, that wouldn't change a thing... I would still see it to be pointless that people have 4x4s when they have no intention of using them. Or am I missing something? Plus the Scottish Highlands are much more fun in a sportscar.

so how does that tie in to alleviating the plight of a Mumbai slum dweller?

...so you think we should have a car for every purpose?
yes, why not? we do use our bike for a purpose (transport, commute, pubs, etc.), people nowadays use their cars for everything, 70% of their journey are always under 5 miles, which make it pretty redundant.
No, you DON'T. You have legs, you have bikes, buses, trains. You don't need a car.
Bingo, my grandfather live in a small town of Ponthir in Wales, he still cycles (although his hamstring is starting to harden up) to town everyday.
if he need to go to different location, he'll just get a taxi, or the bus.

Alright guys, I was wrong, I'm completely willing to admit it and I have no problem with it. As it turns out, the bacon was actually perfectly done!

Can't you see how selfish that is? The other day I was watching that programme on C4 about the slums in Mumbai, it was an amazing watch. And then ad breaks offering expensive cars, phones, more cars, properties.
I find it uncomfortable to know that people do not have the basics while I bathe in luxury. Am I the only one? The more luxury we have, the less basics other people have. I can't just shrug my shoulders "I can buy what I want it is MY money".
To my earlier point, Ratan Tata, the head of the Tata empire still keeps his office in the middle of Mumbai, drives the Tata equivalent of a Mondeo and gives a huge portion of his money to charity. However, the 1000 dollar car he is producing which helps to mobilise people and pull them out of poverty will create a huge amount of pollution, these sales, in comparison to a tiny percentage of rich people driving supercars (will) have a massive effect on the environment.
It could be argued that buying an expensive, mostly hand made vehicle from a niche company which does not advertise (supercar brands don't) and supports the local area with employment is far better for the environment than buying a cheap one made with little thought given to material sourcing, manufacturing process or the labour used to ensure it is affordable.

Maybe one day you will understand that our selfish excesses have destroyed our natural resources and hurt a lot of people.

Huh? why did you post a picture of you Balki?
-
• #1192
It might. Who's to say?
What do you think the general population would think of you if you drove around in a Ferrari?
Who cares what the peasants think.

Ed,
That old lady is playing bingo. It was a little gag following on from your previous post in which you used the term "bingo" as affirmation of Hippys post.
It was really quite hilarious. Seriously.

Ah economic growth, always there to save us. The earth must be laughing at our stupidity.
