Maybe one for the confessions thread, but I walked past a jewellers on Hatton Garden at lunch who had an old, faded dial Rolex GMT Master in the window- I believe it's called the Pepsi dial?

They had three, two looked new, the third was the faded one that drew my eye- I have to say I quite liked it.

No sign of a pricetag- I am going to assume that it would be more than I would want to pay.

OK, seriously Pisti, Bodie, ejay, etc, do you not think that Rolex are on a totally different tip to what is sharp now when they punt out very expensive yet incredibly cheap looking offerings like this? I mean this does just look like the watch that Action Man would wear.

They're a brilliant brand with an amazing heritage yet how they manage to hold onto respect for their brand when they punt tat like this is beyond me. Considering their heritage sometimes they really do come across as an embarrassing dad trying to be cool at a party full of teenagers.

And unfortunately that's enough for them to be tainted with a stigma of being a bit fake as a brand, which I believe has been going on since the days of when they bent over backwards for the Saudi market and started encrusting all the things in chips of jewels. Just saying.

I thought all those colabs were a case of the 'customiser' buying the watches and working on them before reselling them? Like the way bamford started and that euro guy who blacked them all out. Which is to say, it's out of Rolex's control. None of that excuses the rest of their marketing stance, and for that reason I'll always be out. I think it's more than fair enough to judge a brand on it's marketing if it spends more on marketing than R and D. It makes them a marketing company primarily so it's fair enough to judge them so.

I'm making an assumption about their budget but I'd be surprised if it was wrong (waits to be surprised...).

It's good to see some new designs from "Storm".

Rolex would be stupid to turn down the vulgar wealth they attract. I'm sure they have a giggle over the dilution of the brand in certain markets.
