Moderately interesting article about British watchmaking in today’s Observer: https://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2024/apr/21/trending-on-tick-tock-why-british-watches-international-timepiece-high-status?CMP=Share_iOSApp_Other

Bad timing for Bremont to give up on being British?
-

You do realise that is a Pakistan Air force issued watch and is worth far more than an ordinary tissot seastar?

Lovely

Oh yeah. Forgot that little detail! I was aware of the history which is why I bought it. It’s still not worth mega-bucks but I really like it. Probably the best value military-issued watch going…

Since going on the Farer website recently I keep getting adverts for this and I really like it. I can't spend £1700 on a watch right now though.

I like that too, do it.

Is it not just an older/vintage smaller version, not the recent upsized reissue?
I thought the same but only can find them via the Japanese eBay.
There was a Hamilton pilot watch that was a clear fake selling on Etsy/eBay.

Like this very very much :
What else is around with small seconds, no date, display back?

G shock seems to be the forum watch, but have to say i agree, no appeal to me whatsoever. No shade to those who like/wear them but they dont raise any reaction, just a shrug.

Mines fine, has become my default sports watch, when doing actual sport. I use maybe 5% of the features I expect.
I am enjoying my animated Snoopy dial.

The small seconds dial looks to have a scaling issue for me. Like quartz watches where it's too small and too far in.
Is it just me? (Happy to get hammered for having an opinion)

I really don't get the MR-G's that look the same as the models that cost 1/10th of what they ask for those

I like this a lot. Anyone know a reference before I go digging? Cursory Google lens search didn't help.

Saw the same exhibition, two rooms, an extradinary demonstration of human ingenuity and craftmanship over what was a relatively short time. Came out with as much admiration for the invetion of quartz as the first sea clocks. Each have their place, both mechnical and quartz were a representation of the cutting edge of human thought at the time, so each equally impressive in their own right.

Same here, the texture on the side of the case is a bit of a turnoff but otherwise very handsome

I mean yeah it’s a quartz but there’s a lot of info on here but somehow seems to not be too crowded, also like how they’ve done the date, something different to the usual date window.

Not specific to this watch, but more than 2 different types of hand design is something that never looks right to me.
Whether GMT or chrono or whatever, just doesn’t jive.Specific to that watch: Wednesday the Octoberth of 10:09
New to me, this tidy little
early 1970s mechanical Tissot Seastar.
