I would have thought it was an explorer of some sort, some of the early ones of those had brown faces? and if you really want it back, then get your dad on the case with ebay too, the only problem with stolen watches is that they are so easily gotten rid of, people down the pub, yadayadayyada...
The early rolexes were the air king, the sea dweller and the milgauss, though you could custom any of them to your spec.

Lovely watch I would love to own a Datejust
I'm probably missing what you have said right, but that is an explorer (simple clean refined) the datejust (can be nice as in the top one) or is the one with the day, date, diamonds, whistles, bells, ...they can be as ugly as sin with a really over the top body and face...
and 'traditionally' that was the one they all used as a base for the fakes,..

When I wear a watch which isn't too often nowadays, I have a steel and gold Date/Just, T-Bird with Howelite dial.
Second choice would be a steel and gold Submariner with blue dial and bezel. That and an 18K Daytona currently reside in a safe deposit box in a nearby bank, too clunky for everyday.

I have never liked Rolexes. Especially not the ones with a date, and that dirty great lump on the crystal. There must be something wrong with me, because they are the ones most sought after, and most faked as a result. I can't see the appeal myself.
That Explorer is the nicest one posted so far, but I still don't like the case shape or the general styling. -
