  • I gave up trying to make sense of the situation at that point. :)

But my angle is that it's just a load of marketing bollocks, designed to suggest that Timex supplied Pan Am with watches.

A company that has nothing to do with Pan Am, has licenced the right to use the name from a company that has nothing to do with Pan Am (aside from owning the rights).

Much like the "Holdsworth" you can buy from Planet X and in the same vein as fake patina.

I don't know why particularly, but I'm disappointed that Timex would pull this kind of shit.

  • Opportunistic excuse to create this IWC replica imo.

  • No one's buying a quartz Timex IWC-alike for true heritage

  • Thoughts on Baltic watches?

  • Not seen one in the flesh but they seem alright, unique designs, decent Miyota movement, good specs. The 400 - 500 euro ones are more realistic than the 900+ ones even if they have a sapphire bezel. More realistically priced than brands like Yema.
Also have a look at Saint watches
    https://saintautomaticwatches.com/products/the-fifty-five
    And slightly cheaper Baltany
    https://baltany.co.uk/product/automatic-military-field-watch/
There's also China-direct watches like Parnis (I know I mention them too much). If you search on ebay for "miyota sapphire" you'll find a bunch for under £150 with postage but they're honestly really good value and much better build quality than you'd think. Some are straight copies of name brand watches but they do some of their own designs too.

  • Having tired of selling bike parts at a loss, I'm trying my hand at losing money on watches:

    • GA-2100 £50 Bought from @LeChef in March. Tried it on, thought "neat" and it's been in a box ever since, which is pretty much what they did I believe. SOLD

    • BN0118-55E £250 Bought new in May '21. Tried it on etc etc.

    • Chronograph A/surfboard £200 Bought new in Feb '22. Tried it on etc etc.

Postage on me, fees on you.

  • Buy high, sell low!

  • Exactly: will be sinking funds raised into crypto.

  • That Citizen tough is the watch I now wear 90% of the time. It's just so practical, ideal size and looks decent too. Somebody should snap it up.

  • Agreed, I just never have the occasion to wear it.

I'd quite like to replace it with the radio controlled version on a cloth strap (which I'll try on, think "neat", before putting it back in the box, ready to be sold at a loss later).

I'm not sure if it's discontinued on the bracelet or it's supply issues, but they're about £100 more than what I paid now.

  • I didn't know there was a radio controlled version. Although I haven't had to adjust mine in the year I've owned it so probably not that necessary.

  • It's for the green dial, as much as anything else.

  • I think the radio is only receivable in Japan or something.

  • There's an app for that!

  • Baltic seem to have entered the wider horological world with an entry into the Onlywatch annual auction though

  • Doesn’t do much for me this one. I like the fact there’s no date, that’s about it.

  • I like it. It looks like an old school rolex sub or @hachas tudor sub look to it. I love that the hr markers and hands are matching rather than round/square in the BBs

  • Shame it’s too small for you 🤷‍♂️

  • Yep. That's exactly why it's good.

I can see the brushed bezel being divisive. It looks quite shiny but I think I like it, not least because it's very not-vintage.

  • did prefer the old bezel but as a whole it does look great imo

  • Slaps. I'm into it.

  • The PRX I though was going to be to small too but maybe the gods are still on my side.... Maybe.... I'm hoping it.

  • That Pelagos has put me in a quandary.

Had a BB58 down for my next purchase. Now I am not so sure?

  • I actually like that as well.
    Would wear.
    But probably wouldn't buy.

  • That Pelagos has put me in a quandary.

Me too, the sizes felt way more classic dive watch, I don't know how they managed it but it gave me that Submariner vibe way more than the original Pelagos.
