I found the same video on Youtube and the auto captions are good.

In Ed's defense, they're really not, and I am in no way hearing impaired.
For example, it just looks like continuous prose. There's no punctuation or 'Cole:' or 'Bill:'
When there are close up shots of the watches, or whenever Cole/Bill's faces aren't on screen, you can't see their mouths moving to associate lip movements with the subtitles. So you have no idea who is speaking. Knowing Ed IRL, I know that he relies heavily on lip reading.
A brand of Hodinkee's caliber not having subtitles is not excusable IMO - but that doesn't mean he should take it out on me every time I post a Hodinkee article 😂

Which model? It might be one that’s already long gone.

Yeah, actually good captions need to be written, but we established that they don't exist already. For auto generated subs I thought they were pretty good actually.

Try and watch it without sound, you’ll find yourself struggling to follow it keeping your eyes glued to the bottom of the screen.
The reason you find them acceptable is because you can hear them.

I wrote a transcript for a video for you previously, I get it's shit when captions don't exist at all, I was just trying to help. I did actually watch it without sound for a bit and was surprised it was OK for auto-generated captions which are usually garbage.

Is it any cheaper buying Seiko/Grand Seiko in Japan? I'm heading there in October for a week in Tokyo.

Well the Yen is pretty weak so should be...

Still organised tourism only to jp... hopefully will change soon tho :/

Yen is getting destroyed currently by Bank of Japan policy and they show no signs of changing course, so that Snowflake will probably be even cheaper in coming months

Bainbridge is in a Genesis tribute band so allowed to travel for ‘work'.
I’m cancelling a planned trip to Japan for Aug/sept. :-/ i can’t see them opening up to tourists soon -

Cheaper to fly to Japan, buy a watch, grab some miso, come home?
(barring environmental impact on unnecessary air travel) -
• #65468
Yeah. Even on Seiya, which is not the cheapest Japanese store, a SBGW285 is currently only $3700. It’s $4800 currently in the U.S.. are you gonna get hit with imports? Yeah, sure, but it’s not gonna be $1100. Mad cheap.

import tax?? wear the watch on the flight home, shirley?

• #65470
If that's in response to my comment, I meant if ordering online :)

Anyone on here capable of spinning an ETA movement to destro? I love my Steinhart Ocean 1 but almost never wear it because the crown kills the back of my hand. I spun my Tudor (same movement, 2824) but many years ago and dexterity is not what it was (eyesight either - even with a magnifier).
Getting older sucks ballsacks.

Four watches on each wrist should be ok, right?
-
• #65474
and post the box back? Bainbridge could probably squeeze it inside his bass guitar or give it to the drummer to stash.

Although Ipswich once had TWO 'spoons, GS have yet to realise our potential.
The link from the watch took me straight to an email form.
Thank you CB & JB.
