Much joy today as I was finally reunited with a rather special timepiece after spending a lot of time and money finding someone who could get it going. It's a 1930s (I think) Eterna that was given to my grandpa by his dad in 1940 - see the inscription on the rear. It was given to me at my christening, when my great granny on the other side of the family gave me this strap that she had bought in Mexico ages ago. I decided it was fitting to put the two together and for some time wore it even though it didn't work.
Then a bloke called Sean in a cupboard at Picadilly Circus tube station got the mechanism to work but not when I put it on. It's mechanical and not very big but I really love it. I should probably polish the strap...

Amazing. What came first - the key caps or the watch?

That’s a beaut! You’ve set yourself a high bar for your second pic :)

Awesome. Would love it if one of my watches ends up with a history half as good as that :)

Those straps are something of a dying artifact. You used to be able to walk into any silver shop in Mexico/Arizona/New Mexico and find them, but you see them less and less these days. Haven't seen one in AAAAGGGES. Top story and thanks for jogging my memory.

Do it. you’re not going to find anyone on here to talk you out of bidding for it
Of course you’ll need to find a matching vintage keyboard too

Looks good. Don’t worry- the width begins with a 4 so you don’t have to hand back your big boi club card just yet.

Strap looks good on it. SLA017 style.

Lovely stuff. I like the detail that the numerals overlap the small seconds subdial, so often the “done thing” is that the dial cuts the numerals off.
