  • Wouldn't wear this myself but been following Felipe Pantone's work for a long time, pretty wild!

  • It's the 4 line or cosc version. Only existed for a while before the ceramic sub came along. 14060M.

  • The GMT bracelet is 1/2 the charm of the watch. The sub one feels like a christmas cracker prize in comparison, until you put it on and then it's light and looks great.

Yes, sel but otherwise the bracelets are totally different in pretty much every way, the closing mech feels very different. The sub has the wetsuit extension built in and the GMT has a way of relaxing the bracelet into 'cocktail' mode. Helpful if you're travelling and the heat is really getting to you in the evening.

I don't think the maxi Rolex are pretending to be tool watches but once you get past the initial ownership learning curve you get to appreciate the quality. Both are seriously well made, the GMT is probably much better as a piece of engineering.

  • 14060M

    Nice hadn’t noticed those

  • Just happened to be the one they were selling when I was able to get it.

No one will believe me when I say I just walked into Bucheron Geneva and asked to buy it. Took less than 15 minutes. The salesman had a dateless sub with custom red second hand.

  • Love this

  • how thick?

  • thicc boi thicc

  • Love the big crown but damn, looks thick.

  • I thought manual watch are generally thinner?

  • I think the case design makes it look worse than it is. A Speedmaster is barely any thinner.

Distorted Arial for the tachy scale though, it's like they're trying to trigger me.

  • That tachy scale is horrible. Looks like word art.

  • "Dang, now I've stretched these numbers out like that to make them nice and ugly, I can't fit half of them on the scale… guess I'll just leave them off"

I really dislike the Frutiger font on watches as well (which is what "MECHANICAL" is set in). It looks way too modern and like it's at the wrong size. Which it is, because it was designed for airport signage.

  • Also, printing MECHANICAL on your watch dial is a bit naff.

  • Was going to start Timex Tuesday, but realised it is actually Wednesday.
Planned to eBay this one, so dug it out and decided I like it and am keeping it

    https://www.fratellowatches.com/why-did-my-omega-speedmaster-tintin-increase-431-in-value/

    Crazy!

It's a bit odd really, I have absolutely no intention of selling mine so the value aspect is, in some ways a negative- makes it more expensive to insure, more likely to be stolen.

  • Hivemind, I am looking at this watch, but can't workout of the photos are shit or the bezel is super wonky.
The bezel triangle seems to point to slightly left of the middle, but the 30 also seems to point left of centre.
    Opinions?

  • I agree, however quite a bit of the Speedies thickness is the crystal. The case itself looks very slim.

  • It's impossible to tell if it's parallax error (which it probably is) or some actual misalignment from one picture. Turn the bezel 180° and see if it offsets the other way. Better, take a video and see if you can make the effect happen in either direction by tilting the watch.

Edit: realised you mean it's not your watch. I think it's almost certainly just the angle the pic is taken from, if you look at where the hour markers are relative to the crystal etc.

  • I used to have the black 42mm intramatic. Its thickness is ok. Its the lugs that make it wear awkward. They are in the middle of the case and dont hug the wrist as they should.

  • Yeah, looking to buy it.
I figured it was the way the photo came out, but needed a sanity check from internet strangers.

None of the pics have the bezel aligning with the 12 though, so have asked if it does line up ever.

Previously believed to be only man-made, a natural example of a functioning gear mechanism has been discovered in a common insect - showing that evolution developed interlocking cogs long before we did.

TLDR: Insects use gear systems for timing purposes.
