Very interesting indeed. I wonder what made him do it? For the lols? For the video? To clear his stock?

Good advertising for his business I suppose.

Yeah I'd be interested in where he got the replacement parts from. Really good video. Something satisfying about watching someone muck about at such minute detail, like popping the little jewel fasteners in place.

He had a donor movement. Tbh the guy rubs me the wrong way, massive ego.

I dunno, it looks like the people on that forum got defensive real quick when he bad mouted Rolex.

So I guess I’m now into watch restoration videos.

No, watch servicing has become almost totally centralised. The ring fencing of spares was a big part of that.

Watch Hand Tool Rescue if you wanted to expend from watches.

I will look it up, thanks. I think I saw one of those before. A hammer with a leather handle. I can watch this stuff for hours and get engrossed way more than with most other things. Relaxing too.

Thanks. I’m quite happy with it.

I found myself missing the BB58 and decided to try the black. Part traded my Seiko SPB for it and here it is. I think if I could afford it, I’d have both - this and the blue, but as I can’t... this black one seems warmer to look at and I think that’s what I like more. I am a bit fed up seeing photos of it everywhere, but it does make me smile every time I look at it on my wrist. I think it’s such a great watch.

There are article suggesting they both have slightly different finishing.

The blue one is cold to look at. Probably lovely if you live in a sunny, warm place. This is more versatile in my eyes. The bracelets for instance, have the same SKU number, but for some reason the one on the blue seemed a bit more shiny. Adrian from Bark & Jack on YT mentions something about that too. Interesting stuff.

Yeah, the black version has a warmer tone to the steel, the blue has a more white / blue tone, im guessing to boost the dial colour.

I've also got a watch in need of service/repair. SKX007 (nearly 3yo), which no longer runs - I can hear it winding, the crown works fine to set date and time but the only time the second hand advances is when the watch is shaken. It literally stops as soon as it's still.
What's the probable diagnosis? No one cares, but hopefully it'll help someone out in future - Turns out the winding rotor wasn't spinning freely and I think was catching on the case back. Tried to tighten the central screw holding the rotor in place and loosened off the case back a little and that seems to have sorted it.

I’ve had the blue few weeks ago but didn’t wear it much, so ended up selling. Your “got a new watch” post made me miss it and I had to act. As I said, if I could, I’d have both...

I’ve never handled one but heard good things. It definitely looks good!

I asked about it before, quite like it. The non faux lume one is the one to go for.
Real Tropic strap too (very comfortable).

Biden clearly a man of taste with the two-tone quartz Seiko chrono
It’s really interesting that the watchmaker basically depleted all his parts to repair it.
The situation isn’t clear, but I imagine that the supply of parts is something that has changed dramatically over the years. Does Rolex even make parts available these days? I guess that the watchmaker amassed the parts from donor pieces and perhaps some previous authorised dealer/repair businesses selling off NOS part job lots.
