  • Really lovely. What is refreshing is that there is no hint of a GMT-clone.

  • It’s absolutely beautiful IRL, however it is VERY shiny with the flat mirror polished flanks, and a bit thicker than it probably ought to be.

To me the spring drive model (SBGE205 / 211) wears better, but YMMV.

  • A word again on spring drive accuracy - my watch has gained 6 seconds since first of December. Another reason to buy the sbge205!

  • nice GS GMT, the Peacock is one of my all time faves

  • Hah, I’m sad I lost mine, was such a light watch.

  • If I recall correctly, somebody on here had the Hamilton W10 reissue... How’s the accuracy? Looks like a great watch, is it?

  • I think it wears nicer on the rubber.

  • I sent my Everest straight back when I got it as it had some marks on the second hand. It was after 14 days from delivery (it was a birthday present) and despite Eddie admitting it was a manufacturing error he wasn’t particularly helpful. It all got sorted in the end but wasn’t the greatest customer service experience.

  • For some reason I like the SBGW031 over the SBGW231. The two logos on the dial works for me on that reference.

  • Does the Pelagos still come with the rubber strap at no extra cost? It’s good value, isn’t it.

  • Ha, I’m split on that one, it’s probably the best stealth GS with the Seiko at 12. If you didn’t know what it was it would go straight under the radar. “Oh, just a Seiko.”

On the other hand, I like the empty space on the 231 - feels more like a classic hand wound calatrava or something, with the absolutely minimum of dial text.

    Wouldn’t say no to either.

  • Yep. Both straps

  • Anyone interested in my Yema Spacegraf Zero-G? Worn 2 times and then put back in its box. £265 Posted from Sweden. Purchased from Yema in Jan for €399.

  • I admire the Grand Seiko's, but I don't want one.

  • This is my exact feeling.

The reason you'd never buy a McLaren over Ferrari

  • The fact GS is marmite makes me like them even more. There is a reverse snobbery to it.

  • Intrinsic quality over brand equity ftw.

  • @JB but he has sold it.

  • Not sure about the font on GS...

    Soming Inglorious about it?

  • A friend described it as “a bit Reich-y”.

The Japanese seem to like a bit of blackletter, and it probably is the German WWII influence, not that they’d admit it. When I was there many years ago I even spotted some Japanese kana that had been rendered like blackletter pen strokes, super weird but looked cool.

I’d just be wary of equating blackletter with the nazi regime just because you see it everywhere in those films - it was simply the predominant type style in that part of the world for a very long period of time, over 500 years. It’s true that it was a bit long in the tooth by the 1930s and Hitler actively discouraged the more modern type styles and favoured the old fashioned blackletter for nostalgic / patriotic purposes, but it’s not synonymous by any means.

  • I prefer the bracelet but does look good on the rubber. You’ve inspired me, if the lhd doesn’t get pulled after Basel I am getting one for my birthday.

  • Oh this runs deep , ‘Admire but dont want’
Brands are just so powerful .
I think those GS’s can look beautiful. Especially that snowflake dial one , so well made .... but it may not be what we desire.

  • Do folk think the trend at Basel world will be for smaller case sizes ?

  • They say it's a limited run watch. Who knows though. They'll run out of space for numbers soon.
