if it's cosmetic all good fire away
He's pretty detail oriented and often on the money... so you may not be able to unsee.

Fair enough I can't unsee the logo at the bottom now. I like the striped back design and would like a hard wearing black watch in a military style. Just had a look Seiko sport 5s the black out one is nice.

I like the gunmetal case one a lot as well, easier to read than the blackout one: https://www.watchnation.com/product/seiko-5-sports-black-dial-grey-steel-automatic-watch-srpd65k1/
Easy to switch the bracelet for a strap if that’s what you prefer.

That's v nice too, didn't see the gun metal one before. It looks great with the black dial.

NM... Got the lowdown up there

It's a bit like that modded seiko I posted; they've grabbed things from other watches that look good or iconic - and chucked them all together in a weird way. At least it's < £300 and it looks nice.

They have the Prospex Land ones. 4R36 movement for £400.
I think I'll look for a second hand Alpinist though.
Still, I do like this one.

I never realised that these now used a 4R36. The biggest bugbear with my SKX009 is no hand winding with the 7S26. If I hadn't got mine, I'd probably go for one of these.

If the extra water resistance and lume of the SKX aren’t a concern, the new 5 is arguably a better watch.
Right on time, real chunky boi of a review just went up on Hoodwinkee, with video.

I think the new version with the date mag isn’t better, yeah.

If you really want one they are £280 on Watcho and WIN5 usually gets you a 5% off, puts it at about £266.

Wow, I think they’re gonna clean up, amazing value.

I’ve really come round to them. When they were revealed there were lots of negative comparisons flying about because they were pricier than the older Seiko 5s and didn’t have the divers spec of the SKX - like it was supposed to be its direct replacement. Whereas if you take them on their own merits they’re just a great value prop. They’re clearly “nicer” than the 007, from a finishing and detail point of view. I’m even tempted by a few of them...

You should be able to pick a model like that up for under £300 if you’re patient. Eg here’s the non DLC version for £266:
Edit: or Dethbeard’s suggestion that I’ve only just read properly.
Seiko street prices go up and down a lot... I wouldn’t pay retail if you can help it. You just have to wait for them to become more widely available and keep checking prices.

They’ve been dropping as low as $150 over here. Mad ting.

Quite into this modded Seiko 5 (in a 40mm explorer homage case apparently). How easy is it for an amateur to build something like this?

There is a mod guy I have used before with Seiko, not super cheap and USA based, but very precise and trustworthy. Happy to send you the details

Awesome!
Cosmetic, yeah. It’s a pretty motley collage of “iconic” design references (Explorer II 24hr hand as the main hour hand??) plus details I always dislike (blank dive bezel, rotated date window). Purely my personal taste/opinion, of course.
There are some blacked out models in the new Seiko 5 Sports line but not exactly the same style.
