  • I feel like he'd have told me to pry it out of his cold dead hands.

  • It’s not Friday but Mrs Hammer gave me this today as an anniversary present. Had a brief look when it arrived (courtesy of @Jingle_Jangle) but now I’ve spent an afternoon with it I’m even more impressed!

  • Why can't more people take inspiration from bell and Ross re date windows?

  • And then for the watch?

  • Congrats, it’s one of those dials you have to look at twice because you forget to read the time when you first glance at it.

Hard to tell but your strap might be on back to front too.

  • Yes totally!
You’re also right about the strap, I hadn’t even noticed as it’s on a hidden deployant.

  • I was really struck the first time I saw one of those IRL, the dial & indices are even shinier and sharper than they look in pics.

Hard to tell but your strap might be on back to front too.

I thought I saw Stephen Pulvirent wearing the strap that way round on that GS review and I'm wondering if that's a thing now.

  • I know. Baffles me. Such good date windows.

  • Ah, this was a deployant as well, maybe that's how they're supposed to be then.

  • Yeah I’ve just checked a few photos online and they all seem to be this way round. I think it makes sense with the way the clasp unfolds.

  • I thought that true military timekeeping has its own rules. For example nato straps are put on upside-down. When looking up about G10’s I remember there were threads on ex-mil forums about it. Maybe the same for deployment?

    Rhyme or reason, no clue.

  • A week on. Worn every day. So glad I waited for this 🥰

  • Love that ripstop EG number, love the explorer even more. I don't think you need a Panerai or an Overseas. They'll both pale in comparison to this classic. The only thing you could buy that would be better than this IMO is a 1016, but that's because it's the best watch ever.

  • Tom Wood ring??

  • Out of curiosity, what is it that makes you like the 1016 so much?

  • The 1016 is the greatest watch ever, there is no competition...

  • But why? It's nice but I don't see whats so special about it.

  • Historic value, understated & classic design. Can be worn anytime, anywhere!

  • Lugs look kinda long.

  • Pretty much this.

There are close runners up IMO. A 105.003 Ed White Speedmaster. Big Crown 6538 Submariner. 6542 GMT. Patek 1518. Unfortunately they're all totally and utterly unattainable.

  • Managed to bodge a display thing for my humble collection.
Think I’m falling out of love with the Tissot. :(
