  • I think I asked before but don’t remember getting a proper answer.

I have mum’s Breitling Navitimer Sextant mecaquartz. It’s Breitling 55 aka Piguet 1270 inside. The watch loses time, and almost definitely it’s the electronic part not the mechanical that’s at fault.

A, is it possible to buy a replacement Piguet movement? How much?
B, is it possible to buy the electronic part only? How much?
C, what are my alternative movements that I can use?

Is there an alternative meca-quartz movement? I’m loathe to stick a Miyota in there but I damn well will if it means I can wear the watch and see it keep time.

  • I suspect that the only person who can tell you how much is a Breitling service center.

The electronic module is certainly replaceable.

I personally wouldn't even consider putting a different movement in. It'd ruin the watch.

  • Here's a part list for that movement.

  • I am thinking about an explorer to celebrate my 40th . I like the newish one from 2016 the most, is it worth looking at 2nd hand?

  • @Tenderloin is still struggling to get one new so 2nd hand market is more likely to yield quick results.

    I assume you're already aware of the 214270 mk1 / mk2 differences?

  • Ok thanks. Yes I think so, mk2 has lumed numerals and updated bracelet? I like that one the most.

  • It also has the longer hands (they used 114270 hands with the mk1)

  • Mmm yea I guess so. Seems that the old B55 base is the Piguet 1270, pretty much identical to Omega or anyone else.

The local watchmaker I entrusted my mechanical repairs to basically said “hell no” when I asked if he’d have a look.

  • I think part of the reason that watchmakers aren't always happy to repair quartz movements is that they all seem to have idiosyncrasies and can be a nightmare to fix.

The Omega cal 1375 that Alsal are having trouble with is running ok, it's just that the hour and minute hand are running at the wrong rate. I mean wtaf!

Just bought another Omega 1375 donor watch to murder for the cause.

  • Yea pretty much. He said he’d done one a while back, just cos, and had to order the parts from the US and had no guarantees it would fix the problem, and really didn’t want to be out £80 per part when it didn’t. Probably after that one he said never again.

  • I actually had a bit of luck at WoS yesterday - seems like I was on the wrong list and now I'm on the right list. The guy seems to think it should be 6 weeks :)

The lists seem to be depending on how many watches you've bought from them.

  • Imaginery list and the real one?

  • That puts me on the sh*t list

  • I've lost count of the people "near the top" of my imaginary list.

  • I'm guessing dammit is near the top of your list by his response...

    Lol

  • He's top of the real list.
Imaginary list is for people who ONLY ask about Rolex .

  • Oh Bloody hell!!
    Stop making me feel guilty!
    I did find you one......
Don't suppose you'd settle for an Air-King instead?

  • Hahahaha

    Foot meet mouth.

  • I know , that'll teach me to try and be amusing.

  • Must have bashed my watch at a bad angle when I knocked it against the automatic door at tk maxx... there’s a new big crack in the crystal. Maybe I’ll wait til it explodes before I replace it.

Of all the watches this remains my go-to, especially after swapping the hands (even if it lacks a second now).
