You could consider an SRP777. Pretty good repro of one of the models that followed that one.

You can get pretty good repros of the original strap styles if you want the whole look. Zuludiver rebrand some good Bonetto Cinturini ones, and there’s a guy in the states (uncle seiko or something) making a pretty good waffle style one.

Here’s my 775 on one of the zuludiver ones that is a direct copy of the original style.

American Typewriter! They’ve used American Typewriter on a $73,000 chronograph. I’m fucking dead.

I don't even know what an American typewriter is... Is it the font? Of which one? The PP? Why is it an issue?

Just goes to show.

The PP. It’s a cheesy 1970s American pastiche of a typewriter style of typeface. Not really the sort of thing that a fine Swiss watchmaker should be using on a chronograph dial. But I don’t think they have anyone there who gets it anymore.

This is how they used to do it. Every line and numeral on this dial has been hand-rendered (originally, and then printed, obvs). Someone with a lot of skill and understanding really worked on that.

With the new one, maybe someone scrolled through their list of installed fonts and didn’t get past “A”. Or, I know there’s some American connection with this watch with Briggs Cunningham, maybe they took it at face value because it said American.

I’m with you, I don’t have the pedant power to spot exactly what’s off but the old Patek makes my heart flutter while the modern just leaves me a bit meh, inexcusable for the price.
