  • i had one of these last year

  • That's a bit more interesting.

  • You bastards... Anyone got one of these they wanna offload? 1st generation RAF helicopter pilot's chrono...

  • Cheeky homage... ;)

  • Managed to completely not see this thread until now!

Used to have an 'interest' in wrist watchs, but never owned anything of any value, only odds and sods that I could find at car boots etc.
Last year bought two pocket watchs, a 1920s cheap boring swiss chrono job (that just keeps on working, can never get it 'quite' right though, always gains or looses a massive 6minutes a day, no adjustment in between!). the other an 1865 (? might be '66) locally made silver fusee pocket watch. AFAIK its not a jeweled job, just a local jewelers (was in the same family name till the 90s then went bust) version of a popular movement/ case of the period; but I like because of the local connection, the age and the price it was. Inside the case (behind movement) is about 8-10 names roughly etched into the case by the people who have owned it in very very small writing, its bashed and worn and missing its 3rd second hand and the fusee chain is snapped. Decided to make it into a personal project to strip it, replace chain and any other parts that would have been damaged by the snapped chain and fix the case, but struggling like hell to just get any decent tools!
tried fleebay and with some research managed to buy THE WORST jewelers screwdrivers and movement clamp every constructed by man kind and paid royally for the pleasure.

Anyone have any good sources for tools? Just need a basic set of 'drivers + pliers + clamp + random poky things (dental picks, could do with a few good quality ones for various things).

  • @BrickMan - you might want to try any of these, depending on what tools/parts you need:

In other news, got bored so just put the Carrera on a nato - looks a lot better than I thought!

  • ^ pr0n!

  • Why a '68 murtz,

    year of birth?

    you damn right!

  • Tag is hot dang.

  • too much goin' on...

  • This is absolutely one of my favourite threads on this forum. Five stars.

  • shite!

  • Cheeky homage... ;)

bad homage, the strap looks like it cost a quid!

  • Not an auto but military issue Seiko? I still want one of those Bundeswhatsit IWCs.

  • like this?

  • Steinhart?

Nice watches - love the ruggedised look of that - I know their designs are far from original, but they seem to be making quality stuff for extremely good value.

Always been a fan of the Big Pilot. Tried one on last weekend at WoS and it's always such a harsh reality check when a watch, that you've long admired on photographs and shop windows, turns out to look extremely stupid on your wrist.

  • What's wrong with a 2nd Gen then Joe?

  • Strong page.

  • What's wrong with a 2nd Gen then Joe?

    not an auto

  • Re; polishing metal with Brasso. I use Autoglym metal polish, brought my Junghans RIGHT up (although it might be a little unsubtle for expensive watches/timepieces with valuable 'period correct' dirt)

  • right now, this thread > bike porn

  • always been a fan of the Benrus and Adanac military watches
