  • I have 2 g-shocks in the rotation
GX-56 (beast of a watch) solar powered, tough as old boots, square and digital
MT-G S1000d, metal twisted G, tough solar, radio set time, full analogue. (bit spendy) wear it most of the time.

Also have a vintage g'mix in a draw somewhere.

Tl;dr always buy a g shock, they are the perfect beater.

  • I really like the OG tough solar... Pretty understated for a g-shock.

  • If i'm going for a G Shock, I only want the colour to be understated. I like how ridiculous they are shaped.

  • I'm a 5081 guy myself

    edit: sorry for shit picture

  • I had thought about an Ani/Digi version but I've found a Mudman on CreationWatches that looks pretty cheap so think I'm going to try and grab that too. Then it's be a race to see what arrives first.

  • I have a G-shock of some kind - metal bezel - forgot I had it until going through boxes that have been stored for 12 years in my folks basement... still working, on the original battery! Must be at least 15 years old. ANyway, that has been surfed in, lots of snowboarding at minus temps and it keeps going. so yeah, G-shock are good.

  • Heh, just looking at some of the fancier G-Shocks, I wonder if this description is un-intentionally accurate ... ?

A big, full-featured, digital watch that’s easy-to-read and operate. Calling it water resistant will be an understatement; it is fit to be tagged along to dirty work, no matter if it’s mowing or weeding or cleaning a basement water logging.

  • Also, slightly belated keyboard shot.
Thanks (ish!) to @radar for bringing them up

  • I love the black and gold turtles. Id be all over that but I'm waiting on delivery of a Straton I kickstartered.

The wife also remind me that a year ago when I bought my MT-G I said I won't be buying any more watches (she doesn't know about the Straton)

N+1 applies to watches as well as bikes

  • Not the prettiest (far from it) but a smart watch that doesn't look entirely stupid, the Martian Notifier (admittedly the name is stupid).

Analogue watch is a normal quartz with just a small screen for notifications and vibration function. It's a bit thick but not that bulky. It was only £25 which is reasonable. It's American so probably isn't sending everything back to China, maybe just the NSA instead.

  • Dat keyboard

  • strikes me as the worst of both worlds, no? neither the aesthetic appeal of a 'proper' watch, nor the functionality of a smart one

  • Lol. That was why I didn't do my watch shot yesterday...

  • I dare you £5 to lick that keyboard.

  • Yes, keyboards don't seem to be in the remit of our cleaners (admittedly neither do desks, carpets, etc)

All I really want a smartwatch for is notifications. It will only get used used occasionally at the pub, football, etc where there's a good chance I won't hear my phone and I'm meeting a variety of people.

Agreed that if you want a proper smartwatch then it's not the one.

  • Fresh in the post from Japan, lovely sweep on the seconds and in better nick than the photos which almost never happens.

  • Lovely. Congrats.

  • Seconded, that's ace.

  • Love this. Looks great on the Perlon strap too.

  • Worth it for the name Lord Marvel alone.

    But also lovely.

  • Lovely!

  • Lord Marvel is proper nice!

Quite fancy a hibeat/King Seiko one day

  • Added points for the keyboard.

  • I was awarded £200 of gift vouchers at work the other day for bossing a project. I can spend them in Goldsmiths, so obvs I'm going to spunk it on a watch.

I'm looking to break my streak of black faces for something... not necessarily dressy, but smarter than the Seiko divers I've been playing with of late.

So, two options. Both involve me adding some cash, one more than the other:

    NOMOS Club. Hand-winding in-house, 36mm, German. £1000.

Tissot Visodate. Automatic ETA, 40mm, Swiss. £395.

I'm strongly leaning towards the NOMOS, although I've always liked the Tissot. Any thoughts, or anything else I should consider?
