All our Black Bay Black have now gone . Future classic in the making .....>
Are these the ones with the rose logo? Any particular colour?
I had a look recently and there seemed to be a lot of red ones on eBay.

The Black I think. Had a very limited production run before it was replaced six months or so later with the new one with the in-house movement. The other colours have been around for a few years.
I guess it's 40th birthdays for 1976 watches.

The Omega Chrono Quartz (nickname "the scoreboard"), Official time keeper of the '76 olympics. Not really a landmark year for anything other than digital watches. My cool uncle had one!
Dateless Sub/Cartier Tank/Speedy are good birthday watches.

Welcome mate. Is on its way.

Black bay black was launched 15th October 2015 with the tudor rose logo and " smiley " dial and discontinued March 2016. Some stockists didn't even receive their order. So very small production run and very few in UK. I'm Mr Omega geek and I bought one as is sooo cool. Deffo gonna appreciate.

I don't know a great deal about watches being honest, I do like the Explorer from that time, however I don't want to shell out £10k for one.
The watch I wear the most is a Steinhart Mil-Sub homage on a nato.

I thought 60s and 70s explorers were a bit cheaper?
What about something a bit more sevs looking like a nautilus or Royal Oak? Both iconic watches that were released in that decade

can someone explain 'notable birth year' to me, please? is it comparing the one's birth year to the first year of an important watch? ie - 1961 for e-type jags?
it sounds a bit like 'born at a very early age' to me.

I suspect it's a birth year that is 30/40/50 years from the present day, hence people (like me) looking for something from said year.
Watches from 39 years before present day won't attract the same interest as one from 40 years ago, was my theory anyway.

What I meant was, it's fairly nice. You don't want to sell it do you? I could take it off your hands as a favour like.......

They've just reissued that, no? One popped up on my IG feed yesterday, looked like a very poor copy... 😛

Just don't.
I have a friend going through this now. Also '76 as it happens and he's decided he wants a Speedmaster. You spend so long looking, and the more you look, the more inconsistencies you find regarding dating, serial numbers, case markings, minor variations, whether you want a watch which left the shop in '76, left the factory in '76 or made from parts manufactured in '76 it can drive you mad. You end up paying over the odds for a poor example of a watch because of a date association which in reality is probably only accurate to +-2 years anyway.
Comes up regularly on watch forums and the concensus is that it's a mug's game.

I'd say 18, 21, 30 and 50 would be the main ones.
Sanddancer makes a good point about truly knowing the date. But I think it's as validly irrational a criteria as any to set. I'd just accept a date that you reasonably believe is from around that date.

I'm presuming 40 is the big one as most can't afford expensive watches in previous other 'significant birthdays'...
Bejebus... I'm 37 next year... Fuck me. I guess I'll buy then. Lots of them then sell to all the 80s babies! Mwhahaha

What's a good 1980 watch then? Speedys seem to be quite obvious. Everitym....
What else? What should I plan for? What's in my manly wrist size??? Royal Oak? PP?

I bought the missus an '82 AirKing for her 30th.
Serial numbers all match from that period and I wasn't too bothered about whether or not it had left the shop in 1982, just that it was a watch from that year.
You can get super anal about it, but it kind of ruins the mystique a bit if you do.
Definitely true.
The issue is whether a notable birth year is soon. In which case it's unlikely there will be many in the market.
Same with wine.
