  • Contemplating selling my Squale 1515 medium, 30 Atmos/300m, 36mm across without crown. I have the S/S bracelet as well. More details/photos if there is any interest. £300.

  • Oof. Noice.

  • 32mm doe. Looks too dam small on me.

  • So… Alsal says my Tissot could be made a manual (£150), but auto parts cannot be sourced. A manual isn’t really viable for my other half.

The seller has said that I shouldn’t spend more money on it and will refund the money. I’m obviously down on the P&P both ways, but it’s probably the right choice.

The fucker is I now need to source a replacement :( So anyone got any tips on where to go?

    Wish list:

    • Sub£300 (including servicing cost if needed)

    • Functioning

    • “vintage” looks (hate that adjective!)

    • Automatic (ideally something vanilla, not niche… although a quartz with the right look might be more sensible)

    • Leather strap

    • 30 – 35mm

    • Ideally stainless, rather than chrome plated

Had a look on poshtime.com and there are lots of things close, but only the manual winds fit the bill.

  • Odds on that being legit?

  • I thought that... Very nice...

  • Sent the seller my "standard" questions* so we'll see what he says.

At that price with a BIN it's awfully tempting to just jump in and go for a PayPal claim if it's a lemon.

*which I totally forgot to send for the Turkish Tissot.

  • An old Omega? I paid about £250 for this and that seems to be about the average price.

  • Could anyone tell me the model of this Seiko, it's late 70s, I think 78. It was my grandfathers, the strap broke and I lost it. It wouldn't be the same but I would quite like another one. The only similar ones I can find don't have the numerals

  • Word. Just picked one up myself from Vintage Watch Mart for around the same. Not the most sensitive refacing but nicer than most sub £300 automatics:

  • Sorry I probably didn't phrase my question properly.

Where would I buy a watch like that from and be comfortable that it's not a lemon.

I'll head back to eBay, but there is obviously a lot tat.

@BleakReference Cheers I'll check out Vintage Watch Mart

  • Think Rodabod is pretty knowledgeable, I picked up a cheap Omega he posted last year which turned out well.

  • Looks legit to me. Certainly the movement is, and the caseback has the typical JLC stamp. The reason I posted it is because he/she has spelled the name incorrectly, so not too many people will see it. Possibly worth making an offer.
If it's going to be a daily-wearer then I would always suggest getting it cleaned and serviced which will set you back in the region of £100. Oh, and it's a manual wind.

  • Cheers.

I did think it was manual rather than automatic. Otherwise I think it would be spot on.

If it was 34mm I'd be very tempted for myself.

  • I love sub dials esp on jlc. And panerai.

  • Me too.

Without wanting to bore everyone shitless with my search, I've had a trawl though email for Omega and Tudor to start and these have caught my eye (and the sellers have been responsive).

Unfortunately I think the Tudor will probably go over my budget and I think I'd be more comfortable with a more modern Omega than the first from a parts POV.... but I do love the numerals and the syringe hands. Not sure about the grey pubes - but I guess it's an old watch.

The second seems like it might be a better punt.

  • Tudor - Lovely. 28 months isn't very long ago since last service as these watdhes are well sealed (assuming they are telling the truth).

Omega 1 - Nice. I'd like to see the movement and inside of case back. Crown looks like a replacement. I wonder just how clean it is. I would have thought £300 tops.

Omega 2 - Overpriced, even with a recent service.

  • Cheers thats really helpful.

Apparently Omega 1 (the 1940s) was services 3 weeks ago. The sellers given good comms, but I'm not sure how much he knows. Although I love it, I'm not sure it's quite on point for my other half.... Plus the more I think about it, the more I want a known and common calibre.

Is it just the that Omega 2 is a ubiquitous example and has a rough crystal? What would be a realistic price? £200-250?

  • I have been gifted an old pocket watch that aparently was owned by someone in my family.
I think I have made it run, but still need to fix the key so I can wind it.
It's french, but nothing special. No manufacturer markings and a plastic crystal. The case is 18kt gold though.
The question is: What the heck do I do with it? I'm not really inclined to wear it in any way.

  • Omega 2 is just pretty ordinary looking, but it does have a great movement and the overall condition is good. Crystal will be like new after polishing. I, not sure how I'd value that. £250 tops if it is indeed serviced? In my general opinion, if something is a buy-it -now amen it doesn't sell quickly, then it's probably above market price.

I'll have a look for anything I have in the house that may fit the bill, but I'm away to Edinburgh for the weekend, so may have to wait. I have a feeling that most of the watches I have are manual wind.

  • That's a lovely, valuable watch.
