It will set it off, yes. So you need to put it through the X-ray machine, which can apparently magnetize a mechanical watch and bugger up its timekeeping. I have to do this every working day, I probably need a Milgauss...

Yes

I'm surprised. I regularly travel with work these days and always take my watch off along with anything else that's metal, because I'm going through a metal detector. It's not a big deal, I just put it all back on when through security.
-
• #16405
I've went through with mine on absent-minedly and not set off the detectors.

i really want a nomos metro, it's a really good price on iconicwatches and my new mortgage comes through next month so i could probably blag it if i sell some other watches...
It is however sold out on the nomos website, i emailed iconicwatches and they said they can get stock from europe and have sold several recently with about a 2 week wait and i guess that's why their price is better but sound odd to anyone else? seems dodge.
p.s if i go ahead i'll have to sell a max bill automatic - probably the black date version, the yema diving watch, a uniform wares and maybe some more to go towards if anyone is interested

@tilover, i've had exactly the same thought... Iconic watches say there's are "not new but unused", and I'm not quite sure what that means. I keep having the thought that if i'm going to buy one for that amount (even at the iconic prices it's a lot), wouldn't I want to be sure it was a brand new version.
That said, Nomos are sold out until possibly October

they said they are new from Europe and you get the standard guarantee but less 7 days as it starts when the european dealer despatches it, doesn't sound too bad but it's a £650 saving off the real RRP of £2390 so pretty good, makes me wonder about just buying from germany entirely and avoiding the vat?
-
• #16410
You wouldn't avoid VAT buying from Germany as it's in the EU, they'd just charge german VAT. When i looked a while ago the price in Euros on the Nomos website worked out about £400 cheaper than the £sterling price, but that might have been a particular low point for the euro so that could change.
I agree it does sound like a good saving, there is just something weird about how Iconic say an unworn watch is "recently purchased new and purchased by us without having been worn" but then if it comes with all the right docs, perhaps I'm just being overly cautious. I was only looking at this on bonus day anyway and that isn't for a few months, so if you go for it let me know how you get on
-
• #16411
NOS perhaps? Its not new, but its never been worn?
-
• #16412
...plus I find it weird if they can apparently source them now even though they are sold out everywhere else, even at the manufacturer
-
• #16413
@chainbreaker - yeah seems to be similar, but includes warranty etc as tilover says
-
• #16414
seems to be simply a language thing.
We think new as unworn. Theyre taking it as literally as its New or its old. Old but unworn.

Damn German VAT!
the email from them...
We don't have the watch in stock however we would order one on your behalf from NOMOS Glashutte authorised dealer, it would of course be brand new with all box and papers and the full NOMOS Glashutte international warranty. The paperwork will be dated when the watch leaves the authorised dealer which is typically less than 7 days before you receive the watch. All our watches are bought from authorised dealers within the European Union, warranty card and papers are all stamped by AD. All our watches come with a lifetime authenticity guarantee.
You can wait until we have one in our shop again or you can follow the below link to leave a 20% deposit and secure the next NOMOS Glashutte Metro 1101. We can have it delivered to you in 2-3 weeks.
We have them coming in but then going out to clients who placed deposits so deposit would be the quickest way to receive this watch.
If you are ready to go ahead, please follow the link below to leave a deposit and place your order.i'll do it

They've done well to find a German dealer who has one though, given Nomos don't, but it sounds legit (and reviews of Iconic that I can find are about as positive as reviews get online).
Go for it, I will be enviously counting down the days until I get bonus confirmation and can do the same
-
• #16417
Well i may have to do the same, dividend for me is august so will see

My longines automatic is really accurate, not as much as a qwartz but who cares.... Sexier isn't it?
-
• #16422
I was looking to buy something from Nomos but was put off by the £ price being much higher than the Euro equivelent, but AFAIK this is due to differential pricing by Nomos rather than being due to tax, duty, VAT etc.

Gonna be thinning out my collection as I have found the two watches I rotate between (Swatch beater and Sinn).
So will have for sells:
Seiko Sumo
Seiko Spork
Panerai Homage
PM me if interested.
I was just wondering whether I had been taking my watch off for security pointlessly.
It's just something I do, thinking that a big lump of metal would set off the alarm, but is it actually going to do so - enquiring minds want to know.
