  • What??? really?

We seriously can't be agreeing on the same watch?

  • He's pissed as a fiddlers bitch.

  • Looking forward to a wrist shot.

  • Apparently we are.

Still, it was bound to happen sooner or later.

  • I'm in love... Longines Flagship Héritage automatic

  • Gf's just been given her grandad's 1966 (?) Seiko Bell-Matic auto/alarm man bracelet... Not working tho'...

    PITA to fix?

  • One for @VanUden id have thought

  • They aren't worth anything, that much I know... It be nice to get it working but not if parts are gonna be scarce and it'll cost a fortune to fix...

  • Piece of string one mate, depends on what's wrong with it. But parts aren't scarce. If I were you I'd send it off to Richard Askham and ask him to give you a quote / appraisal.

But 'a fortune to fix' for a Bell-Matic? No.

  • Yeah, I saw that page... We'll see if we can find someone out here in Oz to take a look at it... It's an all silver 27j jobbie and in pretty good nick cosmetically, lots of sentimental value for Mrs TS... Ta... X

  • I tried one of these on today. It's a beautiful watch, but at 43mm it wears like a pie plate, just too big.

Also tried an IWC Mk. XVII. Much better at 41mm, and a lot slimmer. Just not sure I really want a pilot's watch, or indeed any watch with an ETA movement that costs £3.7k.

  • Really not a fan of Bremont. What wrong with ETA?

  • Nothing, but when (for example) a Pelagos with a top level ETA movement (as well as a helium escape valve, titanium case and bracelet) costs 2.8k, the IWC is drastically over-priced for what it is.

  • Tried the Pelagos on in HK airport but the price was more than it would be in the UK.

But I am decided, once the mortgage stuff gets sorted, I'll be having one

  • .

  • Do it. You won't regret it.

  • Steinhart have an ETA movement, from browsing their site- I presume it is not the same as the one in that IWC?

  • ETA supply the same movements in different specifications, so it might be.

The one in the IWC is specially modified for them by ETA (not sure how, exactly), and Tudors use top level variants. Steinhart, I'm guessing, use generic base models, but you pay a lot less.

  • Some of these ETAs may have been adjusted for better accuracy.

  • At least an eta movement is serviceable by most watchmakers - in-house movements and the price of servicing seems a bit of a crazy luxury to me, love jaeger-le-coutre but could;t stomach a £700 service and at the end of the day accuracy is the important part not how obscure a movement is? anyone have any ideas on how much a nomos service would cost?

  • at the end of the day accuracy is the important part

wouldn't everyone have a quartz if this was true?

  • Quartz shudders

  • Agreed, there are good reasons to have an ETA movement.

any ideas on how much a nomos service would cost?

You need to send it back to them, but the prices are very reasonable, compared to some. They charge £235 to service an automatic with date, down to £175 for hand-wound.

  • What would be a fair price for a good condition Seiko SKX 007 (made in Japan)? Original rubber strap. Thinking of selling mine, need a change! Oh yeah, it's 2 years old and gains roughly 3 - 5 mins every month which is within spec I believe. I'll post up a pic later.
