  • Spins the little rotor around on the back as shown above, which then winds the main spring.

  • I'm lost. How does spinning watches round actually wind them?

Automatics rather than hand wound watches. In an automatic it's the anchor shaped thing in the photo above that moves freely as the watch case is moved, This is what winds the mainspring and powers the mechanism.

  • Ahhhhh. Cheers. I though the only way was to wind it by hand. Now automatic makes sense.

  • It's a throwback to simpler times, before we harnessed the power of electricity... It feels great to have a self-powered man-bracelet, as opposed to a battery powered one... #imho #obvs

  • Also, something that I've not understood with regards to watches. But why don't people like quartz?

    Because magnets...

Simpler times with more complex components ;)

  • Because magnets...

    They're repulsive?

Thats one of the real draws to watch collecting for me...the complexity, balance and beauty of a mechanical movement. Quartz is better in some ways...accuracy for one but a man powered man bracelet is what I like to waste money on.

  • You'd think you guys would be more into cars than bikes then ;)

    [/troll mode off]

Honestly I can appreciate that, it's the reason I'd figured.

  • Question. I'm going to be in Switzerland, New York and Dubai in the next six months. If I wanted to buy a Rolex in one of those locations, which if any would be preferable?

I know I'm going to get a lot of hate for this but I think I'm going for the half Frank Butcher, the 116613LN

  • With the gold?

  • Nothing to apologise for. It matters not as long as you like it.

  • I want one of those Omega 45th Ann. moon watches.

    Darkness everybody, darkness!

  • Not from dubai it is full of fakes !!

Actual LOL at the idea of B&D buying a moody Rolex. WOULD.NEVER.HAPPEN

Now, in stainless with no date that is a watch I want.

In that format? Get thee to a nunnery.

    Repped.

    added to growing ignore list

  • This could be a good deal if it meets a low reserve:

Budget around £100 for a service if it does indeed need it. I'd want to know the case width though.

  • I really like that...

  • The face has a really nice patina.

This is a total guess but it looks like the 20mm strap has been squeezed on a bit so the lugs are possibly 19mm. Based on my limited previous experience of similar Tudor watches I'd estimate that it is around 34mm across.

  • That's similar to a Tudor I had.
