  • good bracelet as its partly incorporated into the case as apposed to having traditional shoulders that allow you to use a leather strap

  • Thanks, G, a decent bracelet would be high up on my list for that reason. Lots on eBay with bent and stretched first links.

  • Or should I just bite the fucking bullet and hunt down that perfect Air King 5700 that I have been looking for.

  • I really like that Iain. Bit too big for a dress watch IMHO.
from the man that loves foot wide dials?

    I'll take that!

  • I just prefer something a little slimmer for formal use.

  • Though this is the fucking shit.

    indeed, mic

  • Or should I just bite the fucking bullet and hunt down that perfect Air King 5700 that I have been looking for.

    This.

  • Anything I should be careful to look out for or is it just the usual things?

Just the usual. Avoid re-dials, avoid replaced hands, avoid over-polished cases and anything from India or Eastern Europe.

  • I saw a redial where Geneve was spelled incorrectly whilst mooching around online yesterday.

  • Tried a Black Bay on in Lisbon yesterday, did not like the gold details on the dial at all... The shop didn't have a Pelagos in stock to show me... Meh...

  • And you're surprised?

Hardly the centre for horological delights...

  • Dude, there were four super high end watch shops on the same street, only one had a Rolex/Tudor account...

  • ^This. Still have no idea whether he ever received it or not.

Seller was rescuedwatches by the way.

Thanks man, missed the post earlier on.
I might do the same. Money back would be great, its not like I'm using it!
I didn't buy it from those guys, but the whole thing still feels dodgy.

  • right - which of you lot on here commutes fixed on camberwell road - runes on the jersey with a set of keys bearing both a rolex and bell and ross lanyards. Must be on here and in here.

    hai

  • We've been having a good lol in the office this morning at the expensive of Bremont. They launched their new 'Wright Flyer' with lots of press releases about how it's the first in-house movement etc etc.

Someone on Hodinkee spots it for a La Joux-Perret 6901 immediately... nice one lads.

  • and then they said

Bremont co-founder Nick English released a statement that appeared to be in response to accusations from bloggers on prominent watch forums that say the BWC/01 resembles a La Joux-Perret movement.
“This is Bremont’s first progression into developing a complete in-house movement. The movement did not exist until a lot of time, effort and money went into its design and development - both in the UK and with our long term movement partner, La Joux-Perret, in Switzerland,” said English.
“What is exciting is that parts of this movement are being made in the UK for the first time by Bremont. This is important because it forms part of a much greater push internally towards the time when a work-horse Bremont movement will be made 100% on British shores. This is not quick, but it is a very exciting journey and Bremont is totally committed and passionate about bringing back employment in the watch-making sector to the UK,” he added.
The statement expands on the original launch press release, which said: “It showcases Bremont’s first ever in-house movement, the BWC/01, designed and developed in Britain. Many of its constituent parts have also been crafted at the company’s workshops in Henley-on-Thames.”

  • Nice idea. Nice project.

But I Just have to wonder why a dude who has £ '000s has a £15 watch winder...

  • Same goes for people with a £2k+ carbon race bike, but no torque wrench.

  • Also, something that I've not understood with regards to watches. But why don't people like quartz?

  • Batteries bad.

The movements can become irreparable, whereas spring-powered mechanical watches can almost always be repaired as parts can literally be made by a skilled watchmaker where spares are unavailable.

    Also, like sweep seconds.

  • I'm lost. How does spinning watches round actually wind them?
