  • Pretty, simple, accurate. At 36000 beats second hand sweeps as smooth as silk. What's not to like?

Just picked up a hi-beat 5740C from March 1969. These are going to go up in value. It's the precursor movement to the one that smashed all chrono records and got Seiko banned by the snotty Swiss back in the late 60s.

On an original solid link oyster bracelet and so far keeping excellent time (will test it over next 48 hours) face and hands / batons everything are in remarkable condition for a 45 year old watch.

  • Does it really say Lord Marvel on the dial ? What the fuck does that mean ?

  • 'How it's made' for Panerai;

  • ^^ Have a read dude and discover some history on timepieces that as a pro will be useful for you:

Basically, and I'm sure you must know this, Seiko smashed the Swiss COSC standards in the late 60s. They trounced the Swiss, Rolex, Omega, etc, so badly that they were banned!

This 'Lord Garble' was the exact movement 36000 hi-beat (way beyond Swiss capabilities at the time) that set the record. It was then used for Seiko's high end range GS and so on. But it started here with the 5470C :)

  • What I mainly meant was that it was funny !
And I am not gonna get into that whole Grand Seiko versus Swiss debate with you again !

  • Haha ;)

The Japanese sometimes have some weird names but they have amazing engineering tolerances and timepieces.

  • Have they been to the moon tho.......?
Damn sorry couldn't help myself .

  • NO ONE's been to the moon, come on, read the websites, it's all there

  • ^^ Yes they have, in fact they were the choice of one Colonel Pogue Astronaut extraordinaire. Shame on you for not knowing your history:

  • HA ! I did know that , that's why I said moon and not space ..... And not outside the vehicle either , so no Seiko in space just in a spaceship in space . ( I am rather running out of things to argue with you about now )

  • ^ :)

They is the best you knows it don't disrespeck my Asian chrono brethren.

  • Ok.........we'll call it a draw .

  • It's a military thing. See an artilery piece in the distance, for example, and a big flash come from the thing. Start the chrono. When you hear the boom, stop the chrono. The red scale will tell you how far away said gun is.

Watch version of the "1 Mississippi, 2 Mississippi" thing when observing lightning.

Edit: Google says it's a Telemeter Chronograph.

    Thanks!

  • Hows the pelagos running ?
