If getting a case opener, get a 3-prong rather than a 2.
Also, sometimes it's easier to hold the opener with the watch facing upwards (dial up), and hold opener stationary while rotating the watch case. Always adjust the prongs carefuly and use plenty of downward force to avoid slippage.

Box and papers? Do you know what year it is from?

I only ask because I saw a 60s steel and gold one sell for £998 in March. No box and papers though.

beautiful ejay, it does exactly what it says on the can.
years from now that post will be dredged asking if it's still available.

Lovely, took me a second to work out what was going on in the starp shot until I realised it was the deployment peeking out (fnurk) .

Has some paperwork I believe , but not original box . Late 60s methinks .

Love that dial. Would be tempted if I had the cash floating about.

Looking at the current market and spends I think £ 1500 ( ish ) is good value . Still got to find any paperwork from the Windsor showroom where the Rolex account is held , but the condition is amazing . Virtually scratch free and running absolutely spot on . Would be tempted myself if it wasnt for my current Speedmaster professional obsession ..........

Very nice but personally I wouldn't go over 1100 (tops). Would pay 1500 for Datejust.

^ that's cheap in my opinion .
Certainly looking around those steel oysters seem to be between 1200 and 1500 . The one we have has not been worn since a £500 service by Rolex so condition is almost like new . -

I know this makes no sense when you are buying a vintage watch but I really find bracelet stretch to be off putting. Especially when the end pieces look like they don't marry with the lugs perfectly. Its a bit of an irrational pet hate of mine...hardly reasonable to expect a 40 year old watch to be unworn.

I like. Especially #1. I have no connection to this guy apart from getting occasional emails that I must have signed up for ages ago, both of these are for sale - £500 for the second one, £600 for the first. Probably still overpriced, I have no idea. They don't appear to be on his website. I think lots of these are still available too, email was unclear.
I guess LFGSS likes the seiko military best.

For some unknown reason, yes.

the seiko seems a bit expensive even for an issued watch.

Actually to be fair vintage GS and KS can be a bit pricey but GS are certainly high-end Swiss quality for a fraction of the price because they don't have that 'name tag' cost addition (at least not as much).

Advice please.
I ordered a leather bracelet direct from Steinhart for my Ocean Black about a month ago. Not too expensive, only about £23 worth. Paid my money, got the standard 8-12 working days to despatch email. I Waited...
Then had an email saying it had been shipped (no tracking) on the 20th May. I Waited... Still waiting... It still has not arrived! I have tried contacting Steinhart but with no response/reply. Other than being rather miffed, what can I do about it? -

I know what you mean . Links have hardly any movement in them , and at least the end pieces don't rattle but there is some play . But like you said is 40 plus . I would probably put on a nice leather strap , not a hipster NATO !
VU, if that was at the case opener, about 15 quid from Gleave and co on St John's Street. It isn't as easy to use as the simpler 2 pronged jobs.
