  • Can somewhere like Alsal buff out scratches in sapphire crystal?

My new Steinhart has picked up a couple of very minor scratches over the weekend which I am both surprised and slightly annoyed about. They are
    tiny but noticable.

  • But they look like the Mars Canyon and Grand Canyon to you?

  • No, they look like small scratches that catch the light. Just a bit annoying on a brand new watch.

  • ^this. wear the fuck out of it and take it in in 12 months time.

you'll either be back every five minutes or you won't wear the thing otherwise

  • Yeah I have considered that and I can .
I just wanted to know of it was possible to buff out scratches in sapphire crystal, I mean is that what is done or is the sapphire too hard to polish and they simply get replaced? Clearly the fact it has been scratched means it's not that hard.

very unusual to scratch sapphire crystal . Are they definately scratches on the glass or are they marks under it ? sapphire is normally bullet proof , I crashed riding with my Breitling Chronomat ripped the the bezel off as it got dragged along but not a mark on the crystal .

  • or youre too hard

My Tag Heuer Monaco looks like it's been through a war. The sapphire crystal has more marks than a skag heads skin. Quite disappointed actually "because it's square, it costs more..."

Definitely scratches on the outside face of the sapphire glass. I've checked under a microscope. I was surprised to say the least. I'm wondering if it's a cheaper, lower grade crystal or if I just got unlucky.

  • You own a microscope?

Checking for imperfections in Carbon components?

  • Doesn't everyone own a microscope?

  • Microscope is at work. Yes, I use them a lot for material fracture and failure analysis etc.

If it's pre-2009 it will be plexi, not sapphire.

  • It was replaced from plex to sapphire crystal. And that's scratched to buggery.

Are they to go with the (microscopic) scales you were talking about at Le Reej on Sunday???

i didnt think you could retro fit sapphire in a case designed for plexiglass , have always been told you couldn't .

clearly unlucky .......to have bought a pile of crap !

  • sorry ....

  • oof... a little snobbish there.

  • Owch. Right in the sub-dials.

  • I've got a Steinhart Ocean One and the glass is as flawless as when it arrived.

The DLC watch doesn't have the date window 'bubble' like mine. It's unlikely but maybe it uses different glass?

  • ejay negged hard
