I love the beobachtungsuhr flieger watches. IWC stowa and laco were also contracted to make them. They are 55mm!!! (Designed to be worn over a flight suit)

Quite tempted by a Smiths Everest. Not sure though. Any suggestions?

watched that, then watched another in conversation with john goldberger and learnt about this rare daytona.
in the film when the conversation moves on to the actual movements within the watches. it made me smile when he took the small knife that they could had been using to cut the cheese; wiped the blade on the sleeve of his tweed jacket and proceeded to open the rolex chronograph (from 1942 i think he said).

^+1 , there's a fellow called Howard Frum that used to have a fair few back in the '90s, I reckon he made a fortune on them

My dad is looking for a watch to get my Mum as a present. She would like silver, but most important is the face is clear and easy to read. Any suggestions?
Cheers.

Here's an interesting little piece from my collection.
I know very little about it. I know that it was a gift from a Royal Artillery soldier to his Irish wife after he returned from WW1. He was also a Boer War veteran and I also have his war medals and service record from both conflicts.
Other than that, I know nothing about the watch. I think the movement was sadly replaced sometime in the 1950s but despite this I just love the craftsmanship on the face and reverse. The winding holes are even elaborated. The case is solid silver with gold highlights on the dial.
I can't make head nor tail from the hallmarks. No idea where it was made or who by. I just wish the original movement was still there.

A quick bit of advice from a watch forum creates some hope that the movement could be contemporary of the late 1890s or early 1900s.
Hallmarks are Swiss.

Says delivery date N/A which is not helpful.
