Heyup all. Awesome stuff nes on the Tourmalet.
I had the 24hr 3 weeks ago and DNF'd at 19 hours. I made 200 miles in 12 hours and was on for my target of 600km, then at 16 hours, BANG, I couldn't turn the pedals. I couldn't raise my HR above 100 and pottered about at 10mph for an hour. It was raining and the thought of 5 more hours of it didn't appeal. I didn't ride for 3 weeks after. Last weekend was the 12 hour and I was snapping at the heels of mediocrity and managed 198.5 miles......I lost about 3 miles in time spent on the crapper. Andy Wilkinson, beat his own competition record with 302 miles. Thats just over 25mph average!
Anyway, I'm well and truely sick of cycling now. Need to get those stupid tribars off, hit the hills hard and ride with other people. Speaking of which;
Sunday 4th Oct;
Hebdon Bridge 100km, 2555m of Climbing
http://www.aukweb.net/cal/calsolo.php?Ride=09-781And then Sun 11th Oct;
Hebdon Bridge 100km, 2295m of Climbing
http://www.aukweb.net/cal/calsolo.php?Ride=09-185Be great warm ups for the Kilotogo thingy. Which date is best for people? The food is usually good on these. All the Old men ride, while their wives get great pleasure in making rice pudding and cakes for knackered riders at the finish. Slightly cheaper than a sportive too..........

woooooooooooooooooooooo yes! doug...i am sad for what happened but overjoyed that you will come bike riding with us again...
and btw "snapping at the heels of mediocrity and managed 198.5 mile" mediocrity??i think not.
although the 4th is after the tour of the pennines, maybe which should choose which one to do rather than do both!!!! mayebe the second one as there is free curry on the tour of the pennines.

wanna come out with mea nd ronnie on sunday (if he doesn't go to yorkshire)??
-
• #382
Top stuff Doug, I can't even imagine riding for 19 hours, but good to have you back on board mate, hills > endurance TTs.
Nes, that Tour of the Pennines is £25 entry, whereas the Hebden one is £3.50, and as it starts and finishes in Hebden we can spend the £21.50 we save on food and drink at The Trades or somewhere after. There's also trains which get us there in plenty of time on the sunday too. Though 2500m of climbing in 100km sounds pretty serious. That's more than I did last week in 94 miles in the peaks. Not gonna be going to Yorkshire as need to sort out replacement transmission on my bike, hopefully Ribble and the Post Office will pull their finger out and I'll be able to fit it on Saturday.

50km on Oct 4th from Hebdon Bridge. Runs along side longer ride. This one is for the really old men with white beards and full cycling capes that cover the handlebars.
-
• #385
i want to go on that just to hang with the cool dudes..and it's 50p cheaper!!! them's some hills though..that climb to heptonstall will kill me straight off..
-
• #387
Christ, some of those hills look mental, as someone with a white beard I may well do the 50k.

-
• #395
It's a couple of pics of Fausto arriving in Ireland, wearing a suit and shades, and he is the very epitome of early 1950s cool. I'll email 'em later as there on my machine at home, and I obviously didn't upload 'em to Picasa properly.
Got the new stuff for my bike, you around at all tomorrow to help me get the chainrings on ?
