  • Tricity,
specialized say that the main difference between men and women is reach, and although some if it could come from shorter torsos most of it comes from shorter arms.

Weird. I wonder why their evidence is different from AdultData.

  • I don't know... It's in the (rather handy) wsd guide they give. I'll try and dig it out for you, we've got it in the shop somewhere

  • Weird. I wonder why their evidence is different from AdultData.

I'm sure it has nothing to do with them trying to sell more bikes by trying to imply that theirs are a better fit for women than anyone else's.

  • Possibly, but as far as large corporations go, I like SBC.
Nicer/more honest than most, but I'm basing this opinion on there truly awesome warenty policy.
In any case, I found their book on why the design things the way they do interesting, and it would seem that everyone has an opinion on how a bike should fit.

My opinion of Specialized is based on the fact that they started their entire company by taking Tom Ritchey's frame to Taiwan and saying 'Copy this'.
And my opinion on their 'Niceness' is based on the fact that they just threatened to sue Eric at 'Epic Designs' bag company simply because they have a bike model named 'epic', forcing him to completely re-brand after being in business for years already.

  • I knew there was a reason I had you on ignore....
Scott, it's not that your pints aren't valid, I'm sure they are, but you only crop up in discussions when you want to be point-proving.
Please do not turn the ladies forum into a platform for your rightness.

    WTF?

It's got nothing to do with being right or wrong...it's simply my own opinion on Specialized.

I'd say you actually owe me an apology for that reaction.

  • Accusations of 'point-proving' seem a bit moot (I'd say 'Moots', but they'd probably sue me). We're all forthright with our opinions on here, on everything from powdercoat colours to gender politics. Long may it continue.

That's shit about the Epic situation. I'd rather Specialized picked on someone a little closer to their size, and had a go at Rapha's use of 'epic' as marketing speak :D

  • I'm not interested in the ladies forum unless I can use it as a platform for my rightness.

Anyway has anyone ridden a Scott Contessa CR1 Pro? I saw one in Richmond Park the other day, the 2011 paint job is fucking disgusting but I quite want to try one out in spite of it.

  • I don't like Specialized because they use the American spelling of 'specialised'.

  • I would pull up my big girl panties and apologize, but I've worn the elastic band out of them.

I haven't tried the Contessa, but on the same lines I've seen a load of very serious looking women out on Cboardmen bikes (in a fetching pink colour). Anyone had a go on one of those?

  • Doesn't Andy Pruitt work (or occasionally do freelance work) for Specialized? As far as bike fitting knowledge goes (and the phsyiology of cyclists), he's certainly got credibility, so I'm not surprised their literature on the subject sounds more informed than some of the competitors.

Obviously he'll go where the money is, but I wonder why he chose Specialized over any of the other huge cycling corporations…

  • Scherrit also recommended Specialized for their saddle, he told me that the best saddle he usually recommend are either Specialized or Fizik.

That is if I heard him correctly.

  • Specialized saddles are designed to break. Scherrit must be on their payroll. Turn your hearing aid down next time he gives you the hard sell.

  • Ladies have different pelvises to men ( or is it pelvi ) so sadlles or set up might be different.

Scarlett, do you member our former club member who had her Brooks at a 30 degree downward slant?

  • Talking of saddles - have the ladies here found saddles with cut-outs to be comfortable? Something like this.

My mum swears by her cut-out saddle, but I'm rather attached (...as it were) to my Brooks.

  • You can get Brooks with cut-out, or a Selle An-anatomica (whose cut-out is better).

  • There us a ladies saddle thread...

  • @ Ed (not scoble) - was that Dervila? Has she left? Haven't heard from her for ages. Queen of the audax :)

Wow, those Selle saddles are gorgeous. I've never seen leather saddles with cut outs before.

I'll check the saddle thread too, thanks. :)

        Hi guys,

I am a girl, I would like to buy my first fixed gear, I am not good at mechanic, so I would like a "complete one" and not an old one to build (despite the fact that it must be fun!) and I hesitate between two: the Bianchi Pista Via Brera 2010, and the Prima Foffa (black with a brown leather Brooks saddle and brown bullhorns). I know that they are really different bikes, but I would like to know which one is the best to use after work and during the week-ends to have fun.You do not seem to like Foffa bikes, but I would like to have quite an objective opinion...
As you seem to be specialists, which one would be the best in terms of style, quality, fun etc...
Thanks and sorry for my english (I am French)

  • Probably best if some of the girls on here take you under their wing and give you some guidance

  • Objective? Foffa? Does not compute.
