according to rollapaluza, 84.9kph (53mph). no resistance so that's prob about the same as descending down a hill

37.6mph on 68" coming down Wrotham Hill in Kent (not recommended), and around 48mph on my road bike. Aiming to break 50mph this year.

Speedo clocked 32.5 mph today, down Pepys Rd (next to Jerningham, on Telegraph Hill, SE14). 69 GI.

No idea, not owning speedo, but have set off the "30mph Slow Down" sign on a empty street at 2am once, was chuffed with that.

After coming from university to home I was told I hit about 45mph on the way down, when I pulled into my driveway by a white van driver.

How fast were you spinning your legs?
I think I spin out at about 25mph on my SS before I can't spin as fast as the ratchet is movie, I am running about 71 GI.
Damn.

I once hit 8mph cycling to starbucks for a double decaff caramel mochialatte. That's hipster speedway!

i have only ever riden with a speed measurer thing once and hit 46 on route to brigton. up ditchling.. (i lied that last bit)
but it was geared. i am not sure what magical speeds i could get on my fixer -

I've been going down a hill, not pedalling, at an indicated 32mph.
I then went down onto the drops and the speed rose to 38mph, still not pedalling.
Aerodynamics play a very large part.
And a big hill.

I know its a bit of a silly question but could i get fined if i break the speed limit?

I'm a lazy fucker and normally roll at about 5mph if I really push it.

About 183rpm. Give or take a point here or there.

I've hit 37mph on my fixed down Totteridge lane, running 44/16. just moved to 42/16 and don't think I've got beyond 30 yet.
On my road bike I've currently got 65kph as my top speed.

Sprinters like Mark Cavendish will hit 80 km/h in a sprint on the road. That's 50 mph.
Elite and 1st Cat Road Races here in the UK often end with sprint finishes that are over 65km/h (40mph)... so for the Pros to clock 80 off the back of a leadout train on closed roads is not surprising...

I was doing some sprint intervals in Hyde Park one lunctime on a geared, hitting high 30s. On one run a white van cruised alongside me and at the end, I expected a load of WVM abuse, but the bloke in the passenger seat gave me a huge grin and a big thumbs up. I cloked 39 on that one.
On a fixed, 30mph on 82 GI

I have no idea how fast I top out but I know I can't spin very much, I just slog big(ish) gears.

Not true, unless in a bylaw area, such as Richmond park. Speed limits on normal highways do NOT apply to bicycles :-)
Really? Hmmm...interesting. [strokes chin]
I know its a bit of a silly question but could i get fined if i break the speed limit?
See above.
But like, who cares. Top speed means fuck all if you can't flow through traffic. It's the speed you reach the destination not the fastest speed you hit on your way there.
+1 When I was bothering to log my rides I was consistently faster door-to-door fixed, but with much lower top speeds. I still notice it with nodders now - their speed fluctuates ridiculously, whereas I cruise (serenely) along at the same cadence most of the journey. It's like zen and shit.

Just remember that you're standing on a planet that's evolving
And revolving at 900 miles an hour
That's orbiting at 19 miles a second, so it's reckoned
A sun that is the source of all our power
The sun and you and me, and all the stars that we can see
Are moving at a million miles a day
In an outer spiral arm, at 40,000 miles an hour
Of the galaxy we call the Milky Way -

Have only had the Garmin Edge for 2 weeks so not a great deal to report, my cruising speed in London is 17-21 mph. Average speed in town is 15-17mph. When needing to overtake on the flat or slight inclines I have got up to just between 26-30 mph. Downhill the highest I have got to is 39 mph, but just not had that many big hills to descend.

the bus speedo near seven sisters told me i did 15mph coming down the bus lane once.

Sounds like everyone on here is faster than me riding fixed, and I'm riding 48:16 on country roads :(
I decended from an altitude of 1500 to 0 meters last summer (gears + freewheel), after a mountian ride. I may of started carefully, but i was feccking nailing it by the time I hit the bottom :)

My top speed is probably around 47mph (geared), I tend to try not to go too much faster than that if I'm on a big hill or I might just shit myself.
Don't have a computer on my fixed, but I use a VDO C1 (I think).
On my commute on Monday the GPS recorded a top speed of 33kmh (20m) with an average of 19.70km (12.35mph).
Otherwise my top speed has been 46km (probably for 3 seconds)... (28.40mph)
Which explains why Villa-Ru had to slow down the other day when he spotted me :)
