I hit a new PB for my average speed on my work commute this morning, 19mph :) woohoo.

You guys do realise that most of those smiley 30mph LED sign things just flash randomly/scheduled? during the day?
You're not "setting them off" you are just seeing them flashing.
Nope, didn't realise that. I'd have thought it would be better to flash only those people going too fast, as everyone else is driving (or cycling) within the speed limit and doesn't need reminding of it. Ah well.

Made 32 down city road from torrens st to old st on friday's alleycat.

Fitted a cheapo wireless speedo to my fixed over the weekend (because of this thread). It seemed to be losing contact with the sender. I sprinted like a rabid dog, along a flatish peice of road. The speedo flickering 20 between and 10 kph (what? feck no), then just before I passed out it registered 42 kph. Not earth shattering, but I'd need a lung upgrade to beat it.
(78,7 GI)

Those wireless jobs can be a bit prone to interference. Mine seemed to be badly affected by police radios, outside Scotland Yard it once told me I was doing 105 kph, I'm fairly sure it was mistake cos I was locking the bike to a lampost at the time.

what GI are u running ?
48:18 whatever that equates to - 72"???
What rpm would I be spinning at?

I was thrown off a dual carriageway last year by an irate copper for going too fast.
I recently started to use The Bike iphone application, top speed so far 68Kph, downhill, running 50:16

Isn't that 170 odd rpm? must have been quite a sight.

Yes it was.

The speed sensor tech. is probably too expensive. Much easier to wack in a timer for random/peak hour or something and be done with it.

Nah, one is too many already I reckon.
On the main subject matter though, the stretch of road down from Galibier between Plan Lachat and Valloire has got to be one the best downhill rides going. 10km all downhill and hardly any hairpins but not so steep that you're clutching the brakes all the way. Awesome. Probably not the highest speed I've ever done but for sheer sustained high speed cycling it is fantastic. Of course you got to get there the hard way first.

• #372
So.. that's you out then? I'll have your car then thanks. Bet defaulted.
Is the Galibier in the M25?
