I'm having so much fun going through these tapes. I've only done 4 but it's mad remembering bits and pieces "oh yeah!" and then youtube and google can ID tunes immediately it's so cool.
Gonna be sad when I run out of tapes... but I'll be happy when they're all done. Finally can listen to all the stuff I spent so long recording and playing in the 90s.
I missed so much though. Some of these were 4hrs long and I was only a kid so could only scrounge a few shitty blank cassettes. Some of them have been stuck back together with magic tape.

Yeah, it only picks out stuff where there's copyright claim. I'm not sure if you would get the same results using the Song ID feature in Google itself. I presume analysing the file is a bit better at picking out tracks (and it's quicker than listening). But it's quite limited in the results, ie. it only picked out 3 copyright tracks in 45min side of this tape...

Oh man, any of the Dominator tunes crack me up. One of our mates used to love The Dominator (and we ended up calling him The Dominator). He used to do this dance a bit like the Birdy Song dance whenever it came on, we used to call it The Squelch for some reason. Makes me laugh just typing it! I can see him squelching around the dancefloor right now!

😂 that's made me laugh.
Although more poignantly the beltram mix of this was kind of the beginning of the end for me.
It sums up the moment when the split appeared and we moved into nights revolving around genres - particularly that hardcore / hoover / Belgian thing and whistles, vicks, and white gloves etc.
To me this was a massive shame - we started going to back to basics etc which was set up kind of in opposition to all that but ended up being a massive pain in the arse as invariably one of our group would get knocked back at the door for no other reason than door staff with a superiority complex.
Which was then no different to the white shirt and shoes clubs really 🤷♂️

Yeah VHS format back then. Although curtains and bucket hats are back in a big way again.
