It's quite a nice little rise - I head over that way from time to time on 42x16, up Montem Road, round the wiggle onto Brockley view and then (after enjoying the view) drop down into Crofton Park.
I just love Blythe Hill fields - amazing views, really wide skies. Good sledging back at the beginning of February as well!
Brockley view is ridiculously steep, don't think I've ever seen anyone try it on a bike.

OK thanks, I'll try that tomorrow.
Peace
KurtDid you try that route?

Brasted Hill felt like the toughest of today's 4 notable climbs, all in 39/19:
White Lane (Titsey), Brasted, Sundridge, Hogtrough.
It is part of Greater London, according to some sources of information ;)

Yeah, I've been using that route on my way into work since you posted it. Nice work, thanks:-) Still coming home over Shooters Hill though 'cos i won't let it beat me. Getting up it in 48:18, puffing by the top though. Need to HTFU and ride more!
Cheers again
Peace
Kurt

I live literally down the road from blythe hill, are you a catford dweller as well? Montem road has those small estates that are full of little shits as well..

just over the border in SE23 - Como Road. We've been in the area since 1996 and love it.

Went out yesterday and found a few new hills to me, not exactly sure which road it was on but between Cudham and Downe. Out of Cudham left down some mega hill marked 25% then back up another I think it was Hang Grove Hill looking at the map. Neither were very long but both pretty steep. Glad I was going down and up the 25% though. Anyone manged to get up the 25% one into Cudham fixed?

My new route home means going up and over Blackheath ... and there's no nice way up from Greenwich. Maze Hill is pretty sharp.
Maze hill is a killer, I'm far too unfit for that kind of carry on...

Around Downe and Cudham is indeed very nice. The route suggested for the saturday clubrun on the dulwich paragon website is a good one

When I've had a bad day at work and feel like a bit of friendly suffering on the way home, Maze Hill is what I take it out on. slightly overgeared for it, but the struggle gets the blood pounding in my ears; good mind clearing stuff.

It's not too bad fixed, as it's very short, and you can ramp up your speed a bit on the draggy approach.
It's more fun to ride down for that rollercoaster feeling as you turn off the Cudham road :O

It looked doable fixed because the steep but was only short but tough (probably too tough for me) non the less, I might try and have route heading up that way next time for the challenge.
The down was defiantly a bit unnerving, it had been raining so the road were nice and greasy plus I was caught out so in the pitch black with only my commuting lights so it was case of struggling to even see which direction the road swept.

Ha, I came up that Hogtrough hill today on the way back from the rolap'z ride, rain and wind coming in from the left then stops as I crest the top...
Also went past Tommys 25% on the cudham lane. (Never been up it fixed either though)Brasted Hill felt like the toughest of today's 4 notable climbs, all in 39/19:

Martin, you would come down Hogtrough if you did the HOA ride and not the RotFL one...!

he he!
Didn't make it myself, had a terrible cold for the past 3 days, also knew that when it would rain it would rain hard, so decided against beating myself up for nothing.
I'll get out a couple of times in the week for an hours ride each on 65" to make up for it.

Has anyone organised a Kent / Surrey hill climbing ride? Say 100 km ish loop out and back. Hit a load of South of London toughest hills, declare that BMMF is s freak and / or hill climbing cheat who is being towed up the hills by a very very thin wire and back home. I don't know the area well enough to lead a ride around (I always get lost, which if fine on your own but not when leading a hoard of angry fixie skidders) the area but would be up to take part in one.

Corny has been asking me to put together such a ride for about a year.

@ Tommy - count me out. I'm resigning myself to being a competent climber, but nothing more, for at least the next 12 months. It all gets a bit samey, doesn't it.

That is still a lot better than anyone else. I just aim to get to the top nothing more. You could help with a good route though, you could be the man who shouts from the side lines and flogs riders on their way up.
What would you choose. Titsey is tough (too tough for me last time I tried but I've geared down to 65 ish " since then so probably possible now), although White lane sounds nicer due to being quieter, Star hill Road into Knockholt was my favorite of this weekend due to it being of quite a decent length for hills in the area.I just don't know enough, I don't ride down there that often and when I do I'm lost most of the time.
What would your route be Andy?

• #173
Hey Tommy, I think the Hell of Ashdown will take in your 25% climb (pretty near the beginning), plus it takes in Toys, Ide, Kidds, some others and then Star before looping back to the school.

Enetries are closed but it looks like a good route to do anyway. http://www.hell.gb.com/RightMenu/New100.aspx

Yeah, it sold out in a weekend. Its all arrowed out, would be a good chance to to do the route and not get lost if you dont have a GPS.
Still you do have to go to the North downs to find the proper hills. The I expect a Yorkshire man would not call them proper hills
