Have you ever met Dale?
-
• #632
ha, i've known Dale for more than a decade!
he's greek, anyway.
-
• #634
Was Dale born in Greece or is this the Australian theory that you are from where your family came from?
-
• #635
thats the anglo australian theory anyways.... ;)

My boys, the mighty Saints are playing against the Doggies for a spot in the Grand Final.
No prizes for guessing which team hippy supports, then.
Fuck football. All codes.
Oh ...
C'arn the Dogs!
Ah, yes. :)

I was just winding him up. I don't support a team. I often compete in tipping competitions in order to take money off people who give a crap. :)

think he was born in Aus, but he has a greek passport.
i don't know where this "Australian theory" came from, it's not ours. You're Aussie if you say you're Aussie, but just like here or anywhere else people tend to take some of their identity from where their ancestors are from.

Heres some article about bike cages in melbourne int he easter suburbs or something.
-
• #640
Actually, thats pretty interesting. "Parkiteers" they are called. $50 deposit for a swipe card to access the cages, electronic monitoring of all movements in and out.
-
• #641
i like this idea of secure cages for bikes at train stations. it is a good idea.
-
• #642
It is a good idea, but only as secure as the weakest link- which in this case would be the people using it.
For example- I swipe my card, open the door. There is someone behind me with a bike who catches the door as it swings shut.
They come in after me and are locking up as I leave.Except they aren't- they are leaning up the beater they came in with and stripping the lock off an expensive bike which they then leave with.
-
• #643
It's Melbourne, not London. Most people don't give a fuck about stealing bikes since they drive.
-
• #644
Yep... nicking cars is far more sensible.
-
• #645
I like the idea since you can still d-lock your bike and it's also protected from the fucktards that kick the shit out of bikes for a laugh..
-
• #646
...but then you get on the Frankston line and the fucktards on the train kick the shit out of you and your mates for a laugh.
-
• #647
Keeps the rain off, and prevents casual vandalism- true.
Gives false sense of security- true.

It really depends on whether such a system is well-managed. Problems like this can be overcome.
-
• #649
Reading the article it is managed by an "electronic system", i.e. the swipe card is the authentication.
The second you had to hire a human being to attend the cage is the second it becomes untenable from a financial perspective.
I like the idea but it does create a false expectation regarding security- and that's never a good thing.

The trains are much safer now, after the recent initiative by Melbourne City Council of the introduction of Indian exchange students. White people can now travel safely in the knowledge that bogans on the train will not target them.
