haha love the hippo crate!
seriously though, the whole dibs thing is fnking annoying with people saying they want stuff and changing their minds 5 minutes later because they've only dibs to reserve it for them.
seems a bit harsh to not give someone a lot of time to respond but at the end of the day life isnt fair get over it, this isnt ebay, people tend to sell stuff at alightly more attractive prices and it is annoying if you miss out on something you really wanted but its not like you had built your life plans around whatever it was dogs was selling, you didnt even know it existed before he posted it up here.
there arent set rules about selling stuff, and thats the way it should be, we are a community not a commercial venture, if you want garaunteed rules go to ebay or to a real shop!

Hmm well I don't bother with dibs in either selling or buying a pm is my preferred method and its whoever gets there first, beyong that if there's dithering its the perosn with cash who wins.
Tarting about wanting pics of something very mundane and there's zillions of them around wastes time. There is a fair point a pic will tell you if the goods are in good order or not, but intuitively you know who you can trust and who you can't by their pm's or posts etc.
I've had one or two let downs, but generally its beer money so no big deal, and the let down's been put right one way or another.
I'd have to admit the dibs looks good an keeps the thread high in the stakes, but no follow up pm asap and you're out of it.

Wow. It's not like they have much being sold, why be so authoritarian about it?
-
• #108
That post is soooo going to bite me in the arse one day.
-
• #109
so you're not allowed to change the price or say if stuff is gone or still available, or edit your thread in any way?
and just get PM's for the next 4 years with people asking "is this bolt that you had for sale 18 months ago still available?"
them ausies are smart.
(especially BRM & dogs) -

Does seem odd as the sellers will get asked the same questions repeatedly.
Plus if you don't sell the item within the time it takes to get knocked off the front page, you are screwed or need to repost.

them ausies are smart.
oh yeah?

• #112
you need to read my post...i saw you were lurking, and got the edit in just before you posted!...;)

• #115
that is the format of a lot of forums for sale section
-
• #116
Worth noting that in Oz you might be nearly 3,000 miles from the seller, which might be a reason for their attitude, but I'm glad we're a bit less authoritarian and totally unmoderated. Clearly a better class of forum here.

Ive been gradually going through my stuff, in prep for a move to London, and have been selling items on here for a few months.
Mostly, It's been the straightest, easiest way of doing business, with a bunch of honest friendly people. Recently though, there has been a spate of people putting dibs on items, or PMing me that they want them, then going silent and disappearing!
Why do people do this? For me, dibsing an item involves my bringing it 200 miles to London especially for you. I have only sporadic net access once I'm darn sarf, but I give my mobile number and do my best to keep in touch.
Surely, if you decide you dont' want something after all, you undibs it on the forum, and at least PM the seller.
I'm sorry for the nice folks who have been straight with me, but to anyone who has dibsed (TA Adapteur, Evans frame, Carbon Trek frame... any of these ring a bell, you fuckwits?), You are a waste of space, and a drain on the reputation of the furum. you are also denying the items to others, who of course look elsewhere once the 'dibs' has been posted. So, I lose out, LFGSS loses out, and the other members lose out. What the fuck do you gain from it?Wadya think, should I name and shame on the relevant advert threads, or is that bad form?
Opinions welcome.

Er, I think you just did.searches for 'carbon frame'
-
• #119
Ignore dibs. Simples.
-
• #120
with Zed, the question should be "why accept dibs?" serious buyers will be just as happy to make payment (cheque, paypal, bank transfer) to secure items they genuinely want.

• #121
i feel your pain

because they have small willies

but to anyone who has dibsed (TA Adapteur, Evans frame, Carbon Trek frame... any of these ring a bell, you fuckwits?)
'Carbon Trek frame'? What sort of daft username is that?
-
• #124
Serious: Accept dibs for a short time. You can usually tell soon when someone isn't following through. Then cancel the dibs and bump the thread on the grounds that the dibser has gone AWOL.

I did this with a stem once.

if you just put your address here on the forum, we can have a mass race to your house everytime you put something up for sale
