  • Good find. Take note of the first pic all you black SIDI wearing trendoids.. :P

  • Wow, your Dad was a great photographer, really nice pictures and so impressed that he can a) remember who the riders are and b) still has records of which camera, lens and film was used. Quality.

  • Thanks cfor sharing those and the background is priceless. Makes you value the images so much more.

  • I'm thinking exactly the same thing as everyone else - great shots - but thought I just had to post to say that Geoffrey Butler in the first shot is PURE, GRADE-A, 100% SSSSSSSSSSEX!

It's a beautiful bike all right. They don't make 'em like that any more ...

  • Thanks for all the nice ace comments guys, i knew others would appreciate.

I have been thinking though, to get some large prints made up, probably around A3 size, so if anyone else is interested let me know and i can get extras done. Not too sure about price yet though.

These images are merely just a drop in the ocean really, i'm sure there'll be loads more to follow, i know i definitely saw some with Eddy Merckx in....sweet!

    Book?

  • yeah, book! there's all this faux retro cycling stuff going around in cycling publishing...how about the real thing!....get a decent designer on board...would be ace!

  • Funny you mention that, it's already something my dad and i have talked about. Would be a lot of work, not just with having to scan all the images (some negatives, some prints), but also remembering all the information...would def be worth it though!

  • If you got a publisher on board, someone would obviously be able to do the technical stuff for you professionally, and an editor would most likely be able to help with image selection. If there is more like this as you say, and pictures of more famous riders like Eddy Merckx, then I could well see that happening. Of course, I have no idea what the market looks like, e.g. if it fits into a gap, how well this sort of stuff sells, etc., but why not try?

  • as above or:

photographic book, short captions, scanning service, self-publish, consider print on demand (though this last one will work out very expensive to consumer on photographic books)

  • Yeah, that's it, i have no idea concerning the market for this sort of thing. I guess first thing's first is to get all the images into a digital format and go from there. My dad had mentioned that a photographer friend of his had a single copy hardback book made just for himself, and the price wasn't astronomical, although obviously a bulk order would always be the best option.
    Hmmm.

  • There must be people on here who have contacts to publishers or know about publishing.

  • Yeah thanks, i'm sure there are plenty, and once we'd be ready to do such a thing, then here would be my starting place!

  • Great pics, funny isn't it how athletes of yesteryear all seem so much older than today... guess it was because they smoked woodbines and hated the Bosch so much.
ps love the inflatable tandem cyclist on pic 4!

  • I would love to have that Cooper bike, my surname being Cooper and all.

  • My surname is Carrera.

  • My surname is Tommasini. Now can I be sponsored, please?

  • Specialized doesn't really have the same kind of ring to it does it?

  • no your just special hippy.

    great pic.

  • Ron Cooper still makes frames....

always been on my wish list...along with Roberts.

  • I really enjoyed those pictures and the commentary Alex.
I would buy a book, or just prints.
You dad is a legend, and quality photographer.

    Slightly better than t(sh)rek.

  • i would love to have the bike tony doyle is riding in the first picture

I havent checked tour de ville since its official opening in its new premises, butim sure somewhere like that would be great to exhibit them. You could put up prices then people could order prints off you. - Just like a gallery innit.

  • Printspace for high quality prints and high resolution scans, they have an awesome hasselblad negative scanner.
