On one of the previous Horseshoe events there were some yoots hanging around smashing bottles and shit as I left. So, it's still possible it was someone just wandering around. Then again, everyone on this forum is a dirty stinkin' law-breaker so I'd not put it past 'em. I jest.

Sorry to hear about this Stelle.
The lurkers on here are almost certainly scoping out bikes / events / values - but in this case it sounds like opportunistic kids. -

Scully, that is ace. I want you to do that to mine! I actually didn't like the idea but I think that would look awesome.
@everyone else: Yes, I think Rolla should consider making an effort to find a pub that has a garden or locking facilities. Even if they invested in two movable half fences of their own then we could position them and lock to them.. just a thought?
Also we should be being proactive. Would it be so bad to designate say 5 or six people at an event that would alternate checking the bikes..? It really would not be too demanding and I think we all like our bikes enough to put some effort in. -

video cameras ?
get footage of said kids
asbo, prison sentence, life of crime, death from drug overdose at 35 ( hopefully )
the po po don't have time to look into these kind of issues -

as Skully said, there were a few of us outside through the evening, my lungs will attest to this, but it does back on to that estate and a pile of shiny bikes does attract attention. Strangely there were more valuable* things left behind or not securely locked, so they seemed to know specifically what they wanted.
Its only just occured to me that I had to stop and redo the bolts on my saddle on the way home.

I will charge you One Pint or £3, depending on the venue for the work. PM me if you want to arrange where. I will be going to a couple of the drinks next week with my stamping tools.
Sorry to hear about this Stelle.

I really think there aren't that many people who are surfing here to find out where our fantastic bikes are. These kids who nick them don't know the difference between a Dawes and a Mercian... Ahem neither do I actually.

Yep that's what I was trying to say. That we all communicate a bit more at events like this, or rollapalooza appoint a lackey to be / organise others to keep an eye on bikes in spots like this.

Really unfortunate, one of the reasons we keep going back to the Horseshoe over the last 8 years is because this doesn't normally happen.

@Greasy
I think 'SLAG' might stop any 'second hand' sales possibilities. -
• #45
hahah yes I do think "Slag" would put off a few potential customers...and of course be funny as hell "greasy mounting his slag" lol

Really sorry to hear...bike theft has been going on around that neck of the woods for some time. I had a saddle and seatpost stolen about 3-4 years ago and that was something distinctly less attractive than a Brooks so wouldn't put it down to the publicity of Rolla Racing

I feel slightly guilty as Skulls had designated me fag patrol, but the way the bikes were spaced out it was difficult to observe, and obviously I wasn't smoking constantly. I couldn't see very well the cycles by the railings, as a) they were very dark and b) there is a downward slope to the otherside and there were cars in the way outside the pub. Also the massive block beside it meant bikes extending beyond were unobserved. I also think it would be quite possible to steal with impunity from BEHIND the railings thus making it pretty safe for the thieves to make a getaway even if discovered. These observations are just meant to assist against future attempts.
BTW Stelle I have at least 20 saddles, and your welcome, except I want to keep the 1 Brooks Swift I've got! -

Bad luck stelle - that's a nightmare.
(and i hope the 'guest' reading this isn't the thieving bastard!)

not trying to be harsh, but "this is london". anywhere you leave your bike it's a gamble for stuff to be stolen. £50-100 brooks saddles are an easy target for thieves.
So any time that anything gets stolen we just shrug our shoulders and go 'pffft'? No. We have a right to be angry when our personal property is violated, as much as if someone were to attack us or break into our house. I won't just accept this because "it's London". Don't think my bike would be any safer if it was a rusty old mountainbike.
i know this is a bit callous but do you think there are any members of this fine forum who are on here just to find out about parties / nights outs etc who know where bikes will be at certain times
lurkers checking to find out where bikes will be parked that evening ?that is what I was wondering initially but hearing other people's opinions of the area maybe it's not as calculated as that, but people who know that regularly there a nice bikes at the pubs in the area
Really unfortunate, one of the reasons we keep going back to the Horseshoe over the last 8 years is because this doesn't normally happen.
I had always felt perfectly happy leaving my bike there previously. To be honest I though it was quite a posh area...it's not exactly Kingsland Road, is it?!
Skully: I do still have my Brooks from the polo tourney and I would LOVE lettering on it! Will PM you.
Also liked the suggestion of the funny shaped nuts - cheaper and more flexible than Pitlock, thank you markjohnson for that.
thanks all x
