West Midlands CX League Round 2 done. Great turnout again, over 140 in my race. Mega technical course, slippery mud and roots everywhere - more like a mountainbike course than 'cross. Slow puncture led me to roll the front tyre on a fast downhill section about half an hour in and crashed heavily. Cuts and bruises mostly with some lumps and bumps in some weird places and a thick head so I'm guessing I twatted my bonce as I landed. Finished though. Lost 5 mins and 20 places, never mind. Great to chill in the sunshine after, most un'cross like!
So sore and stiff today despite the recovery juice 😩
One bike cross is also a very good idea -

Nice hat!
Is this you - if so, what tyre are you running on those crests? Ta.

WTB Nanos. THey're massive - 40mm, and heavy as fuck. Terrible to race on, but great to do things like the South Downs Way on without suffering the dreaded flats. Only reason I'm racing on them is because they're a right bastard to get on the rims, and there's a whole load of goo in there and oh it's all too much

Big tyrez rule!
-
• #5056
Ta. A bit bigger than I was considering.
Nanos get a lot of love for everything but racing!

I just bought some Vittoria Cross XL Pro because they're cheap and look to have better grip in mud/grass than the stock Sammy Slick's.

Funny you had trouble getting them on your rims, I just fitted a pair to some Cosine disc wheels and could put them on and take even them off without levers!
-
• #5059
Different rim tho
-
• #5060
Yeah that's a 29er rim, a teeny bit bigger I think. Enough to make it tight.

Only just got round to watching this. Funny how the entire field has transferred to discs, I think it was pretty much 50/50 last season. Perhaps manufacturers and teams have insisted on it this year.

if anyone is looking for a wheel upgrade these are a bargain

yeah, I would think that's the case though I'd like to think it's Sven Nys retiring. feels like it confirms the passing of the old guard.
On a related note Cycling Tips are screening a subtitled version of sven: the final year on Tuesday, http://cyclingtips.com/2016/09/sven-the-final-year-documentary-exclusive-english-language-premiere/

just spotted they are £499 when you follow the link, they are £399 when I log into my rose account
-
• #5065
I did spot one guy on cantis, they caught him overshooting the corner at the bottom of the hill
you might find them on back on cantis when the mud appears, a lot including sven IIRC used discs at cross vegas and some of the faster drier courses last year

• #5066
Which just seems so arse about face - surely you want consistent, reliable braking in the mud?
-
• #5067
The pros go for the weight saving
-
• #5068
Which is even more stupid.

Just got my Vittoria Xl pro tnt delivered today. They look bloody nice. Thanks for suggesting

• #5070
Too much power from discs in the mud perhaps?
Sven Nys was actually swapping between bikes with discs and cantilevers in the same race last year. It's also possible manufacturers have stopped producing the top end frames with cantilever mounts.

Talking if his Sveness and cantis, he still seems to be going pretty well
-
• #5073
Also just noticed that @owlz was tenth too - good ride!

Just grabbed myself one of Bruce's race frames from last year. Going to be running a 6800 double with CX9 brakes but I'm unsure about wheels. Should I do a set of Fulcrum Quattros or stick with my H Plus/DT 350 build. Hmmm.
Quality! Thanks for the link.
