Things I learnt today:
- West London is a long way from East London.
- Don't build a bike a day before racing it.
Only got to sign on 20 minutes before race start and had to change tyres, affix number etc. Didn't get to preride the course thus didn't realise my stem bolts were lose, cue my bars pointing a different direction to my wheels promptly after the start. Had to stop a few times to straighten it out and then into the pits. So not a first great lap. After that it got better, though of course, despite the complete lack of any technical sections the curse of new bar tape struck, didn't really lose any time because of the crash and I think I just about avoided getting lapped.

So cross people....
28h tubular carbon rims? Any recommendations?

Wider is better. Only use what you can afford to trash.

Scariest CX race of the season? You should have been up at Helwith Bridge yesterday. There was much fear.

For anyone wanting to try cyclocross, or for someone who's done a couple of races and wants to get some more experience, then this Sunday's round of the London Cross League (www.londonxleague.co.uk) at Herne Hill includes a Go Race, start is at 1245.

So, I could do ROTFL on the cross bike, and go straight into the cross race afterward?
-
• #337
Yes, use ROTFL as a warm up.

Sounds like a plan

Raced at Purdown in Bristol on Sunday - part of the Western league.
Managed to not come last, which was pretty much my aim for my first ever cross race :)Only took one tumble as well - taking an of camber grassy corner a little too fast - no harm done though.
Lots of fun - don't think my HR dropped below 175bpm for the duration...

Do we have to sign up beforehand or can we sign up on the day?
I need all the practice I can get before Muddy Hell.

You're welcome. My season will be over by then.
There's also the VCL promoted Madison Cross race at HH on New Year's Day. Howard and I showed them how it was done last year.

There will also be a novice race ahead of the central league race at Milton Keynes on Saturday.

I've been lent a titanium pompetamine prototype. Looks like I'm gonna have to enter a few races...
Hopefully.
Come race at Hillingdon on Sunday. I'd be up for the three pimples round two another time.
Have you raced Hillingdon before and do you have any suggestions on tyer choice?
