Cyclocross - CX and SSCX races and training

Managed to get the front tyre on with a CO2 blast, but no luck on the rear (burnt through 4 cannisters...D'oh!). I'm going to try some layers of electrical tape to reduce the volume, but otherwise I'll just pop the Mud2 back on!

Gorilla tape is excellent for that purpose. You could also try using an inner tube to mount the tyre then just Pop off one side to remove the tube. Then you'll have one side mounted so at least half the job is done.

@andyp ta. Might bring my Limus and racing Ralphs and make a call on the day.

You won't need the Limus. A fair bit of tarmac for a start.

Yeah. Tracers? Didn't feel like they offered a lot last time though. Damp aggregate trails are no fun on skinny tyres.

Final update on the PDX mounting.

Finally able to mount both tyres, but not without losing my hearing for around 10 seconds.

Applied 2 extra layers of tape on top of the Stan's Yellow tape, and popped in a tube to mount one bead. All this with copious amounts of soap suds. Happily it mounted so I took the tube out and pumped in the CO2.
I leant back with joy as it snapped into place thinking that wasn't so bad after al... BANG!!! The thing almost took off, as the whole kitchen was covered in a film of sealant. My hearing went all Tom Hanks in Saving Private Ryan and I honestly thought I'd ruptured my ear drums.
I'd not realised that this cartridge was 20g instead of the 16g ones I had been using earlier and completely missed the point of closing the valve.

But the tyres are mounted, so I've got that going for me.

I'm planning on racing tomorrow. Will be getting the train from Denmark Hill-->Bromley South-->Meopham. See you there @Howard @andyp

Try tubeless they said. It will be fun they said.

Despite what it says on the message boards at Bromley South, it seems trains are running to Meopham. Will confirm in 5 mins or so when my train is due.

Trains appear to be running okay, although the inbound services are late so that might have a knock on effect.

I have howard's old mud 2 front, Vittoria xg pro rear.

I'm mentally getting ready for a repeat of the herne hill summer series race, although perhaps Andy is just winding us up ?

If not this is going to be an expensive day out.

Well that didn't go to plan. Purdown CX - managed to get about 3 turns in before my massive leg watts (lol) did this:

Threw in the towel after three laps - no grip at all meant no fun at all.

I finished. Not particularly fun tho.

Also missed my train home by 1 minute and now have an hour's wait. Still, my rear mech is intact, which is something I guess !

Good thing it's not cold and dark. Oh. Wait.

I have a cheese sandwich and a banana with me so alls not lost, I can just have a picnic.

Sorry. The course was very different from last year with a lot less of the hard packed trails.

I still can't quite believe my rear mech held up. It was jam packed with grass and mud at the end.

That was a bit frustrating. Not many chances to go full power as I was busy sliding around and falling off!

Some people didn't seem to be struggling so much though.
