all three climbs need head down, pedal churning keep at it attitude but all pleasant and doable in the right gear.

GROUNDRULES:

1. Riders' bikes must be in good working order.

2. Riders must have adequate lighting (normal LEDs don't really cut the mustard) to illuminate road irregularities with plenty of time for safe evasive manoeuvres, and to get home on their own if necessary.*

3. Riders should have spare batteries / lighting in case of emergency. It is also wise to carry the usual puncture repair/ tubes etc.

4. Riders should familiarise themselves with the advertised route.

5. Riders should be aware of aggravating train commuters, and be ready to ease the situation with diplomacy / compromise.

6. Riders should be aware of cars behind and in front. Fall into single file as soon as safely possible. Common advice is NOT to wave traffic through for legal reasons. Better to single up and let the driver decide when to pass.

7. Riders should have a charged mobile phone and a few other riders numbers.

8. Riders will produce baked goods on request of TNRC management.

I can bring a spare back light if you can rustle up a front light from someone...

tika if you can get a front light then cool but please note you will need a proper good front working nightriding lights. i would say the descent of sundridge hill is the most fraught with danger of any of the other bits of blacktop blessed by the TNRC. and there are a fair few potholes on other parts of the route.

Victorians, our train will arrive at 19:03, we should be able to board straight away, so be outside the main archway entrance by 18:45 perhaps?

I'll probably be there from not long from 18:30 onwards.

I'm Nick - I met some of you on the st margaret's ride.

Would love to come along on a Tuesday night - can't tonight, though I'd love to - I have no decent front lights. :-(

So I'm going to get some! Evan's recommended Ay-up - can anyone else suggest some brands to check out? I've never owned proper lights.

I've not seen Ayup lights myself but have heard a lot of positive things about them. I use Dinotte myself but they are hard to find now in the UK.

One major thing to consider is if you want to go for a proprietary battery pack, which I think the Ayup's have, or go for standard rechargeable batteries like the Dinotte and Hope lights use.

aren't Ayup lights for northerners only?

right. well now i'm paranoid that my lights aren't good enough. but i'm still planning on coming. i'm hoping to get out of work with plenty of time to race home, grab my bits and be at cannon street in time.

Can't make this now so there's a spot at Cannon Street going. Girlfriend gets back from Spain around that time so I'm gonna be a good boyfriend and go meet her at the train station.
