  • Everyone gushing on TTF about Magic Mans time from last night. No one has the bollox to ask about the 3cm rule (I certainly don't).

  • I've never given it much thought before, but the 3cm rule is clearly a load of guff... Aside from any debate of exactly where the 3cm line should be drawn, I'd say around a quarter of the field are borderline over 3cm (sensu @mdcc_tester) including several of the fast looking guys.

I can't embed, but which one is Steve Irwin?

  • The rule is to stop people riding in a superman position isn't it? Magic Man isn't in anything near a superman position. Ian's position in the 100 is more superman even though he's probably within the 3cm rule due to heaps of saddle setback or a long frame or something (there was some chatter on TTF about that too).

  • Don't think he raced the Swift event? Trek SC, Catlike helmet, 60t single chainring.

This is the most aero guy in the UK

  • Ah yes, my bad.

I know about Mork, he often rides the same local club TTs as me. In fact comparing myself to Mork was a bit of an epiphany for me in terms of how important aerodynamics are. I'd only recently bought a power meter and I averaged 288w for a 23:52, Mork won the event with 20:42 off 313w.

Up until then I had always thought power was king, but that race really emphasised to me how much aerodynamics matters.

  • Have you read Topham's book? That was what started me thinking about teh aeroz.

What's the longest event Mork races? I'd probably run straight into a car or something if I held my head that low.

  • Not yet, but I'd like to at some point.

  • Don't think he does over 10s. Tops is also very aero, especially considering his shoulders.

  • Is that why he started using the POC?

  • Turns out it is very aero, on the right person.

  • Like every other lid, stupid looking or not :)

  • Apart from the Bambino...

  • They're fine, if you're on closed roads and can drop your head completely.

  • The rule is to stop people riding in a superman position isn't it?

I don't think it is, because you can ride superman and be inside 3cm if you build the right frame. Although they may have had it in mind, I think the real effect of the rule is to keep tiller lengths down to controllable levels.

  • This is the most aero guy in the UK

    Also flagrantly flouting Reg.14.d.(ii)

  • Since the site is new I can't find what that is now... sigh

  • This is why everyone should ride bikes with 60cm top tubes, no worries about breaking the 3cm rule that way...

  • Since the site is new I can't find what that is

    It's the 3cm rule

  • Or just sit behind the BB, in the way god and nature intended.

  • It would be really interesting to put my powertap on there...

I don't think the chain would bend far enough, chainline on the tandem in 46.5mm

  • Nice try on the fishing @umop3pisdn

You're more brave than me, you're also faster than me :0)

  • Have a 8.5 mile lumpy TT tomorrow. Have purchased a set of Tri bars this week. I'm pretty new to this, any dead on tips to get me a few seconds?

    1. Don't go off too hard
    2. Don't go off too hard
    3. Don't go off too hard
  • It's 8.5mi... go into the red and stay there until you finish.

  • Practice with the TT bars lots before tomorrow. Lack of confidence can easily make you slower than on drops or pursuit bars.
