I'll be peaking for HC season then, you know, like my forte and all.

Well as Tom S would say 'It's good to have something to aim for'

Death at the top of a hill? I'm not that keen.
-
• #805
Yeah, would avoid Amphets and brandy for hillclimbs
-
• #806
you need to be a skinny f*cker with massive thighs ! massive tolerance to pain and no regard to body care
-
• #807
did Hippy mention he won a hill-climb?

First 10mi of the year done.
Fucking alarm didn't go off so had to rush out the door to get there. Raced out to Maidenhead and made it. Then the stupid P-X seatpost slipped so I'm riding 6cm down on where it should be.. grr.. need that assembly paste. Didn't feel it out there. One of our guys, Peter Dixon, stormed past and did a long 23. I did a short 26 I think. Simon beat me by 1 second, and Peter got the handicap win off me by 3 seconds. Fark.
First time the ever riding aerobars. First time the TT bike has been out. Really should've sorted that out beforehand. Oh well. At least the first one's out of the way and I know I'm shit and need to do some work now.. :)

You were lucky mate, I was off a hour before you when it was fuckin' freezin'. Nothing fell of my bike, but I thought my cock had fallen off somewhere because I couldn't feel it when I finished.

Did you see me out there? I thought I might've seen you but wasn't sure. I'm sure someone with a beard smiled at me.. could've just been one of the local groomers.. ;0)
How'd you go? We (except Peter) were so frickin' disorganised. I slept in, Lance snapped his gear cable so only had the little ring and Simon (it was his first 10mi) had aerobars he couldn't use on his road bike. I'm sure Boardman would be pleased with our attention to detail.. :)

How'd you go?Didn't see you, you would have been out on the course when I went home, and I would have been out on the course when you got there I assume.
27:36, a whole 6 seconds faster than I did on Boxing Day.

You rode it on Boxing Day? You must like the cold!
For years I'd go out in anything, all weather, any conditions, whatever. I must've just hit middle age and this winter I've since forgotten what colour grass and sky are supposed to be ;)
Anyway, for me it's good to have a shit ride, since it'll mean I eliminate some issues before the next one. 25 on Amersham Road in 2 weeks. -

Did you have to spend much time fighting that bastard cold east-north-easterly wind?
-
• #817
You rode it on Boxing Day?
It was actually warmer on Boxing Day
@BMMF
The good thing about starting early was that I was finished before the wind really got up. I expect Hippy had a harder time of it coming back from the turn. -
• #818
Yeah, down at Herne Hill, the wind got nasty after about 10/10.30am.

I expect Hippy had a harder time of it coming back from the turn.Yeah, it was a quick drop into the RAB but there was quite a lot of traffic (stopped and coming through) there and with me being new to aerobars I elected to sit up on the bullhorns to be ready with the brakes. So I didn't carry much speed into the RAB and then pow.. headwind.. climb.. I could've walked up there faster.

Top 20 out of 71 starters isn't too bad considering my knees were near my ears and I was a wobbly nodder on those aerobars ;)

If Saturday was cold, Sunday was evil. Mrs S raced in the Surrey Hard Riders - minus 3 degrees when she started (or so she claims). I didn't go out til gone midday, and did 70-odd miles out to Surrey and back; it was still really cold, with a nasty wind to boot, although at least the sun was shining.

Chapeau to you lot for racing on Sunday, went to Richmond Park and froze to death
26 minute 10'sis a good time in those conditions
I'm doing the Lea Valley 25 next Sunday, hoping for double figures for the temp.
Anyone else doing it?

Just seen a piccie of Mrs S going up the big climb in Sunday's tt - is this the face of someone that is giving it 100%??

She obviously realised that her ride was going nowhere with the visor flapping about like that
and peaking for the Vuelta after he'd fucked up the tdf
