  • A few pages back Xav pointed out that my aerodynamics might benefit from some improvement (normally around 0.27 in aerolab rather than below the 0.23 value that he thought was achievable). Coincidentally, I just saw some good side-on pictures of me racing, and so I was wondering if there was anything obvious anyone would suggest to improve my position at all?

The two things that seem most obvious to me are that (a) I look quite far forward compared to most people. This is probably a hangover from my background in long distance triathlon where the forward position apparently improves my run off the bike. I'm not sure I really want to change this because I'm likely to go back to LDTri next year. (b) My back looks quite curved compared to the photos I've seen of the top people?

    • edit - the aero extensions pointing down was a mistake caused by a wonky floor and a spirit level and has been corrected!
  • The wrinkles in your skinsuit are probably costing you at least 0.01m² :-)

  • You should have seen them before I got my mum to tailor it down to somewhere near appropriate size!!

  • You look like you could probably take that stem all the way down, this should get your head a bit lower.

Any reason why you're not holding the end of your extensions? Maybe squeeze your arms out a bit to achieve this, as you have a little bit of room before your elbows meet the pads. This could possibly flatten your back out a tad?

Would be keen to see an experts view tho!

  • Shave off the hipster beard?

  • Beardist.

  • Wiggo I has beard. He I is pretty quick. Conclusion?

  • You both just want to be 'ard.

  • I'm always hard.

I'm really not sure these blue pills are paracetamol..

  • People always forget to go narrow as well as low. Make sure your shoulders are touching your ears.

  • And get your bloody head down.

  • Arms out (3cm rule), head down, pedal harder.

Doesn't work for everybody. Neither does super low. Worth experimenting, but no guarantees.

  • He's not even 'kinda' low though.

I just copy what Tarmacexpert and Tops do until I can do proper arro testing.

  • I've seen Tops pedal. I don't care if it's fast, I'm not copying his cadence. #myknees

  • Hmmm, seems I won tonight's club TT. 2 lap course, 12.6 miles. However, I should point out that:

    1. It took me 31m12s. So still quite slow.
    2. There were two non-club-members who beat me, one 29m29s, and one 30m dead.
    3. A lot of the other club members had decided to make it a road-bikes-only-and-no-pointy-hats race, and I was in full-on pointy-hat-TT-bike mode.

But hey, fuck it, I won! By default, admittedly, but I'll take it.

Reading CC were doing that tonight. I think most of them still beat me.

  • I won nothing tonight and so did a lot of people so you should be happy with it in some regards. Good stuff. Right, now that's over, find another minute and a half and don't come back until you've won outright. You disgust me.

So he should seek out an event in which he is able to win with a time of about 32:42? :)
