  • A so-so result for me tonight (25m49s) albeit with quite a stiff headwind on the return leg and it was on the slower of the two 10 courses I usually do (excuses, excuses). Only two Ely 10s left this season, so I'm hoping to do both of them.

  • Should I enter a 10mi next Saturday before a 50mi on Monday?

Should I enter a 12hr the Sunday after that?

  • do the 10, for a laugh and if it qualifies for BAR. Do the others if you think there is a reasonable chance of beating your existing times.

i've not entered a single time on the spreadsheet as I haven't ridden a single standard distance TT this year. Maybe i should try to squeeze some in too.

  • ^^ that one shitty time on my first and only 50 is annoying me.

  • I have to do a better 50 time for BBAR as it's currently an unfairly low time, done the day after a 100. I'm thinking of ditching the idea of another 12 and concentrating on some shorter stuff for the wind down. Not sure I can focus enough on another 12 this year.

    I am

  • It used to be pretty common practice to ride a Saturday afternoon 10 before a Sunday morning 50. Didn't do Obree any harm when he did that, comp record 18:27 for the ten followed by National Champion and comp record 1:39:01 in the 50.

I did the Sat.10/Sun.50 earlier in the year and I can't say I noticed any negative effect on the 50.

  • No. Unless they're for fun.

A 10 the day before is a fair way to open the legs for the following day.
A 10 2 days before isn't conductive to performing at best. Though it proberbly wouldn't hurt. But then what should you do the 2nd day, Sunday. I'd say an easy hour to clear the legs and some hard intervals to keep them firing.

For my money, this year you've already done a good 12 and a brilliant 24 and I believe it's only too easy to overdo things.

We've all of us only got the capacity for a certain amount of racing, and trying to squash too much into a single season may well damage enthusiasm for future years. Enthusiasm can be seen as a rider's greatest asset, and so needs to be treated with care.

I hope you hit a good day for your 50, and then you can retire to the pub for a month or two.

  • I'm quite comfortable ditching the bike when I don't feel like racing. I'll never be accused of over-training.

I'm gonna try the 10 and 50 and leave the 25 out. Three in a row is probably going to make for a crap 50 whereas a 10 probably won't kill me with a day to recover and I don't yet have a 10 time for this year.

I wouldn't mind doing the WCA 12 again as it's quite nice but I'd be pissed investing the time if I didn't get that farkin record so probably best to wait.

  • Looks like the 10 I wanted to enter is closed now anyway.

There's some evening ones after the 50: H10/8, HCC234, HCC227, HCC083 and H10/1. Not sure I can make it to any of them though.,

  • Enter the h10/181 west of Oxford, pretty quick course.

  • I'm not sure if there are any more races on the H10/181 that I know of?

FUCT are running an afternoon 10 on the H10/17r which I think is very similar (although I've not ridden it this year). Entries still open: https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10151558442189077&set=a.412400464076.193940.210472369076&type=1&theater

EDIT - Oops, I'm getting my courses muddled up - H10/181 is the Witney course which is indeed quick, but is not similar to the H0/17r. Still, I don't think the H0/17r will be that slow.

  • I've ridden the H10/17r and it's not slow, but the drag up to the roundabout means it's definitely not super fast. H10/181 is meant to be a bit faster.

  • i'm glad you said that, I think I rode the BUSA 10 championships on that course a few years ago and killed myself on that drag just to get a mediocre time.

  • Late to it but sorry to hear about you not making club record on your 12h, hippy.

    Brilliant distance nonetheless!

That was the one on Sat. Entry is closed.

I'm not so worried about fast courses for 10s I just want 'a' 10 on the board. A PB would be nice but I'm clearly focused at the longer distances so 10s and 25s are a bit.. meh.

Cheers, there's always next year. NurseNinjaEdit :)

Don't they know who you are?

  • I am

    I'm not

Raced tonight after racing Tuesday and despite pb'ing tonight I felt Tuesday in my legs the whole way round. Annoying to know that I could have gone faster. Plus I have no idea how I'd get to the 50 for 6 in the morning.

  • Nice to see you in Sportiv.. I mean Cycling Weekly magazine hippy.

  • Plus I have no idea how I'd get to the 50 for 6 in the morning.

Get out of bed at 3:30, quick brekkie, on the road at 4, arrive at HQ at 5, sign on, warm up, start at 6, pb at 8, arrive back at HQ at 9*

*There's a bastard hill from the finish to the HQ; when the Nationals were on that course, they actually supplied an uplift vehicle for the women!

  • 3.30 is a going to bed time, not a getting up time.

  • Stay up till 3:30, quick eat, on the road at 4, arrive at HQ at 5, sign on, warm up, start at 6, pb at 8, arrive back at HQ at 9*, go to bed.
