Roller is a massage really. So it might be able to help. Though you might need something harder.
If stretching and massage help, I'd think a roller would be able to do some good.
Though if it's that bad, just go get a proper sports massage. -

Roller != massage
The foam roller just hits the hip bone and collapses around it, not actually reaching the problem area whereas my masseur can work thumbs into the problem area. #kinky
He's also been doing some weird skin stretching thing around the area which may or may not help but it's not making it any worse. The stretching is to loosen the muscles around the nerve which again isn't really something a roller will do.
You mean getting a small Japanese woman to walk over my back while burning incense isn't what I should've been doing?

Yes yes, fair.

A foam roller helps to perform self myofascial release. Myofascial release can also occur in both massage and stretching. Foam rollers don't work as well as a massage on me but I still use them.

No, they don't work as well.
But massages aren't free. Using a roller is. And my girlfriend has tiny hands. She isn't strong enough to hurt my legs properly.

Tester, has the Mdcc tt moved to the h10/10 now?
Any insider tips on the course, bearing on mind the best tip I received for h10/2 was save a bit for the way back as it is a bit uphill!
-
• #4983
Yes, start time is 1900h
Save a bit for miles 2,3,4,5,7,8 & 9 as they are uphill :-)

I really like the H10/10. That view might be rose tinted though.

Position looks ok to me, think I can come down a little at the front - but need to sort out a new saddle first.
Thinking about a cobb/adamo but soo pricey

Coming down might not make you more are.
Could come forward and open the hip angle.
You should shrug too. Will bring those shoulders in. -

Different light, lose the saddle pack, aero bottle or no bottle, overshoes. Stretch your number better. Push head down further if possible.
You already look quite low (at the hips) in the second shot. Be wary of just getting low - personally I've found my current limit for that and it's much more conservative than most but if I go lower I run into problems with glute strain.
-
• #4991
yup - all valid points :)
I had meant to lost the pack and bottle, but my mad panic to get to the start after sorting out the punctures meant I forgot...
Didn't have much choice with the number pinning as one of the pins snapped/pinged off about 50m up the road :P
Will have to practice the shrugging and will get on the turbo and play with the position and trainer road to check that power doesn't drop off.

Yeah, if you just shrug you shouldn't need to lower the bars any more.
I've managed to get a comfortable position by lifting my bars an inch. I do have a problem in that I end up with numb genitals after the end of just 10mi. Gonna try tilting the saddle forward a little to see if it helps at all for tonight. If the wind stays as the forecast says it will then I should be on for a decent time. Ok, somewhere in the 23min.

"I've managed to get a comfortable position except that I end up with numb genitals after the end of just a 10mi"
Erm. That's not really a comfortable position then.
Ooh ninja edit. Cheeky. Try an Adamo.

I don't have many tips for you but I am impressed by this fella's FC Barcelona skinsuit: http://www.sisportsimages.co.uk/GalleriesCycling2013/GloucesterCityCC10m%20TT/slides/SIS_8035.html

Well, it's comfortable everywhere else and I can lay down decent power. But numb nuts is usually a problem afterwards when the feeling comes back. The Adamo saddles look good but I don't have that kind of money to spend. I might see if there are alternatives that I get on with.
I don't really mind spending the money but I'm not that serious about racing. I'm only racing myself as I know that I don't have time to train properly. I think if I did get a more regular job where I could train properly I might be decent enough at them.

What saddle do you use now? I have SI T1 on the Condor you could try?
-
• #4997
I'm using a classic Flite as that's what I have on most of my bikes. I might put the modern Flite from my road bike on there to see if it makes any difference.
I might take you up on the offer, see how I get on.
When I had my bars lower I kept getting a sore neck and my triceps would ache afterward - probably from trying to lift myself up. There's a guy who videos the riders at the half mile from start/finish so hopefully he'll be there tonight so I can check out my position.
-
• #4998
It can be counter-intuitive but if you lift your bars, bringing your arms up, it will probably allow you to lower your head further. Then again, if your neck is the limiter this might not be sensible.
-
• #4999
Lifting up my bars seemed to allow me to relax my shoulders. it also flattened my back off a bit as I think I was curling up. I felt like I had to get out off the aero extensions for any slight hill and that my breathing was restricted.
This is the only picture I have of the old position -

hippy, have you seen these videos by the bloke that *isn't *Damon Peacock?
Nah, oddly enough for a fatty I have no tissue in the painful area, it's basically just skin over hip bone. From what I can gather the nerve is within the glute or the quad or something.

Targeted massage and stretching seemed to help before the 24 so I'm doing more of the same. I borrowed Scherrit's roller to do my upper back but I find the whole roller thing a bit hit and miss.
