A few friends are talking about riding HCC175 on the 20th June. It's too far for me and I'm busy, but look at the profile... Surely that's cheating?? You probably can't even pedal for the first mile!! Humph.

I'm riding with a 226mm saddle to bar drop on the TT bike at the moment.
It makes for a very aero position, but is not conducive to good digestion.
As long as you can ride it for the distance required without injury and your power output isn't hampered too much.

"Spun out in 52x11 on the downhill start, must check what my max was there [edit: 76.5kph], then worked hard all the way round to eventually cross the line on 22:17. That's my best since I did a 22:11 here in 2008 so I was happy enough. That got me just 10th out of 27 riders, Tops being quickest with 19:31 though I wondered if he was hoping for quicker. (Of course he was, who doesn't?!) "

It's a club event run by Farnborough & Camberley CC I believe. I'm not sure if it's ever used for open events, someone mentioned difficulties with finding a suitable race HQ for open events so maybe not. Plus I'd have thought (though I don't know) that open events would have stricter rules about the profile of the course?

^ maybe this... but I just heard about it from friends so not 100%

I think that might be the 10 I had on my todo list last year but didn't get around to it for some reason. Was looking for a cheat course to better my 21 on :)

Hmm, might make the effort to go down to that rather than the H10/2 if there's going to be forum celebrities present.

blimey. That looks crazy.
Oh Andrew, how did you manage to be so slow?

Don't I count as forum celebrity :-(
HCC175 ski slope is going to be a hand full on fixed

They don't, see R25/3 and F11/10 for examples of open courses which huge elevation drops from start to finish.

• #4317
I thought any course used for open events had to have the start and finish within half a mile of each other, so I assume that rules out the HCC175?
-
• #4318
No, it's a bit more than that and I don't think it's different between open courses and club courses.

I've met you plenty of times. Build the tandem, and I will come.
You were right about saddle position btw, middle of the rails and dropped a bit has proved much more comfortable and probably faster tonight, second fastest time of the season and only 10 seconds off someone who was putting minutes into me earlier in the season.

IBuild the tandem, and I will come.
It is now standing on its own wheels and tyres, had to nick the chain master link for my solo bike at the weekend otherwise it would be ridable, albeit not road legal as I haven't fitted a brake yet.

Will it be ready for the 20th? Doing a 25 on the Tuesday so will probably be sub optimum for pb hunting, may as well just do the MDCC event.

Looking at my schedule for the next week, probably not.

On the subject of 25s... I've got my first one since 2011 tomorrow and I'm wondering how to pace it.
How much of a drop in speed would you normally expect between a 10 and a 25, all else being roughly equal?
-
• #4324
For instance, comparing the course last week (Witney 10, H10/181) and this week (Burford 25, U95/25). If I take all the winning times on record then the mean speed on the 10m course was 29.2mph (n=27) and 26.4mph on the 25 (n=13). That means that the winning speed was about 10% slower on the 25 than on the 10.
Applying that to me, my speed last week was 24.9mph so should be around 22.5mph this week. That gives a time of 1:06:40ish. That seems slow and either tells me that my hasty maths is wrong or that I am indeed slower than I'd hoped.

Speed is so variable. Just use perceived effort.
Sounds like a sex dungeon.
