  • you can have trouble getting the saddle angle far enough forward, you might have to try a few posts.

  • I'm in Cornwall, all the local TTs look hilly as fuck and I'm struggling to raise my game. Can someone tell me to HTFU?

  • htfu

  • HTFU, Alfie, you lazy layabout.

Ha, ha, hippy's post got turned into lower case characters.

  • No it didn't. I typed it in lower case knowing it was pointless typing it in uppercase.

  • Tester, how do you rate the TriRig Omega, in terms of braking quality, not aerodynamics?

Hard to tell on my bike, the lever on the first generation Ventus is a piece of shit. Doesn't seem any worse than the Veloce caliper I had on there previously.

If I had conventional bars, I'd consider these:

  • They won't fit on my bike though - central mount.

I'm just considering the TriRig in case the Spesh brakes are shit. I've been spoiled with DA on the PX and I'd like my brakes to continue to work.

  • Is using a layback seatpost the wrong way round to get further over the BB a bad idea? Current setup is saddle slammed forward on an inline seatpost and I still position myself wayyy on the nose of the saddle, just wondering if it'll be a bit comfier with the saddle a little further forward.

I'm surprised you're having this problem, but I also don't think moving the saddle forward is necessarily the answer. You tend to fall forwards even more if you start more forward. Look at triathlengers - they all seem to perch on the nose of the saddle even when it's already well ahead of the BB.

Have a little test run with the saddle slammed all the way back, and lowered a bit to keep the distance from the BB the same, you might surprise yourself.

Ah, so you're considering Omega SV? I'd be surprised if they were a functional upgrade over the stock brakes.

Not really considering, just building a list in case I feel the need to switch the stock ones out.

Hmm, just tried out both options actually using a tape measure to set saddle heights and having the saddle set back didn't feel as bad as I thought it would. I'll do a couple of timed back to back tests along the A4 and see if it makes any difference. Would it be worth going for a shorter stem when the saddle is further back? My arms are nearly 90 degrees with the reverse post, but nowhere near that with the inline.

I should probably get a bike fit tbh, I'm fairly sure none of my bikes fit me particularly well, it'd be nice to pay someone to confirm that.

  • My arms are nearly 90 degrees

90° at the elbow? You can go out a bit from that (based on horizontal forearm), but no more than 120° or it becomes a bit too Superman.

  • That's what I'm worries about, short back + long TT means I feel very stretched out with the saddle back. Think I'm still within the 3cm rule though.

  • Never let your bars dictate your seating position; get the relation between your arse and your feet sorted out first, then move the bars to where your hands end up.

    this! in spades.

  • Need a second head to watch myself out of body. But position is getting there, couple hours of playing today in position. Been looking at lots of men, of similar build, in lycra online. Girlfriend is mildy worried now!
Don't think I like the saddle, but not sure yet.
Going to get to HHV soon for some aerolab'ing. Find RP is too variable. Regent P. wold proberbly work, if I get a clean run. But HHV is a lot closer.

Still need some wheels. If anyone sees any.

  • That's some bar-saddle drop but you are pretty lanky from memory and I ride as Captain Conservative

  • I'm riding with a 226mm saddle to bar drop on the TT bike at the moment.

It makes for a very aero position, but is not conducive to good digestion.

    Mirrors on a turbo?

  • Mirriors doesn't really work, as you;ve got to turn your head and then you're out of position. I'm going to get my fair lady to take some videos when doing intervals later this week.

And hippy I'm 6'1 with a 35' inseam. So long legs. That position gives me a flat back with near 90 deg. elbows. I don't feel a fetal position is for me, more of a bottrill flat style.

And the road bike is just the same really, flat back when laid out over the hoods. http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7371/8726396024_9aff832161_c.jpg

  • Lots of mirrors - floor, ceiling, tilted - Have them reflecting all angles to your HUD mirror.
